Continue ReadingThe 2019-20 high school basketball regular season and playoffs have long been over, but there are still are quite a few unsigned seniors left who have not yet committed to a college. With all travel ball events being put on indefinite hold, unsigned seniors didn’t get one final opportunity to showcase themselves to college coaches.
In addition to that, the NCAA transfer portal exploded, and college coaches seemingly opted to go with more proven college talent than taking a chance on a senior in the absence of the spring live period.
Here are some seniors I’ve watched this season who are still unsigned and could probably help a college team at some level, whether that be D1-DIII or even NAIA and JuCo.
Ty Foster Ty Foster 6'1" | PG Lincoln | 2020 State CO – Lincoln
Foster is arguably the top unsigned senior remaining on the list and is a guard that I would certainly try and pick up quickly if I am a school still looking for a floor general and leader of men. Foster gets the best out of his teammates and does a bit of everything. He was one of the states best perimeter defenders, he attacked the basket with reckless abandon and was difficult to slow down and also was one of the most athletic guards in the class. The 6’1 true point ran the offense to perfection, and that was with being keyed in on every single game. He calmly got through double teams, found the open man, and finished. This season, he was a Second-Team All-State member as he put up 16.9 points, 4.9 boards, and 4.3 assists a game while also picking the ball away to the fine tune of 3.3 steals a game. He is an ultimate competitor that knows how to win and works extremely hard on both ends of the floor. A school will be making the right decision by snagging him up and will be getting a steal.

Cam Le Van Cam Le Van 5'9" | CG Legend | 2020 State CO – Legend
Le Van is one of the better facilitators in the entire state and somehow is still unsigned. Schools should strike fast as there are a couple of other schools interested, but as of now, he is open and looking. Le Van is a leader on the floor as he gets the offense into their sets, is vocal on the floor, and leads by example. He is a small guard that can get to the rim as a creative finisher but is a pass-first point guard that takes care of the ball and makes the right play. He also can shoot the ball a bit and space the floor with his outside shot, which opens up the defense and allows him to break a defender down off of the dribble. In Le Van’s senior season, he put up 10.0 points, and close to three assists a game. He had an eruption where he went for 24 points in a close win against Boulder and showed that he could be a dynamic scorer when called upon.

Landon Wallace Landon Wallace 5'10" | CG Conifer | 2020 State CO – Conifer
Wallace is the best passer in the state and was one of the leaders on a national scale. Wallace is a true point guard that has incredible court awareness and productivity when he is n the floor as he makes others around him better and the best of every situation. Wallace takes care of the ball and controls the pace, is a great outlet passer, and is difficult to contain both in the open court and in half-court sets. He probes and dissects the defense on every play and deciphers, which is the right choice. He is a high IQ guard with upside that has a niche for passing, which is contagious. He also is a high effort guy that contributes in other ways. In Landon’s senior season, he averaged 9.2 points, 10.9 assists (state leader) 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals. He was a 1st Team All-Conference Player and All-State Honorable Mention that a school will be beyond thrilled to have on and off of the court. I think he makes his decision soon but feel that more schools should be putting their name in the mix.

Kyrie Thomas Kyrie Thomas 5'11" | CG DSST:Byers | 2020 State CO – Dsst: Byers
The highlight tape says it all. Kyrie Thomas Kyrie Thomas 5'11" | CG DSST:Byers | 2020 State CO is truly a bucket in every sense of the word. He is undersized but makes up for it by scoring – in every way imaginable. He shot the ball at a high rate (43% from beyond the arc) and also showed the ability to create for himself off of the dribble or easily blow-by defenders for easy lay-ins. Guards could not contain him, and once he dissected the defense, it allowed easy scoring opportunities for himself and teammates. Thomas was a 3A 1st Team All-State member as he put up an impressive 22.6 points, 3.7 assists a game, and also 4.3 steals as well. Thomas has a quick first step and scorers mentality. His advanced ballhandling and set of go-to moves separated him from the pack and is one of the first choices I would pick when a school asks who is still available.
Luis Miera Luis Miera 5'9" | CG Bear Creek | 2020 State CO – Bear Creek
Miera is a player that, no matter where it was or the setting, was about a bucket. He can score in various ways, but his ability to both shoot the ball from deep or get in the open court and create for himself had him as the target for opposing teams. Every opposing team’s gameplan was to slow Miera down, and even with the different looks that came his way was able to score the ball. Miera is small in stature but plays big. Last season he was the only Bear Creek player to average in double figures as he put up 17.6 points a game and had three assists a game to go along with it. Miera shot over 40% from beyond the arc and is a score-first guard that possesses the ability to find open teammates and sees the floor well; he was just forced to take on the scorers mentality. Miera is still available and can help a school as a guard that can create for himself and others.
