Today we at Prep Hoops look at the Minnesota Select squad coached by Mitch Ohnstad. Select has the talent to be a top five 17u team in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="532550" first="DJ" last="Akpati"] of Totino-Grace (6’0 PG). Akpati is a top 5-6 lead guard in the state of Minnesota’s senior class and he led the Eagles to a 20-win season facing one of the toughest schedules in the state. Scored 3-4 buckets a contest, ranked with one of the best on-ball defenders in the state, and has become a standout making choices off the high ball screen.

[player_tooltip player_id="532558" first="Devin" last="Burger"] of Totino-Grace (6’6 PF). Burger was one of the three double figure scorers on one of the state’s most balanced teams plus his all around game has taken massive steps forward. As a passer, defender, rebounder, and stretch four scorer Burger is one next in line to pick up a scholarship from the D2 level.

[player_tooltip player_id="850718" first="Evan" last="Dushek"] of Owatonna (6’8 PF). Evan continues to grow in all ways. His fierce play helped Owatonna surprise many by winning 17 games and his 250 pounds put in 20.5 points and 10 rebounds a game shooting 52 percent from the floor. Dushek is a junior-to-be that we are anxious to see as he could be the next 2022 that breaks through with college coaches.

[player_tooltip player_id="774742" first="Pal" last="Kueth"] of Mankato East (6’5 SF). Kueth is a big wing with guard skills. Kueth was one of five double figure scorers for the Cougars helping the team to top five in the state and coming into next season Kueth and [player_tooltip player_id="850715" first="BJ" last="Omot"] have the ability to each be 20 point per game guys.

[player_tooltip player_id="774734" first="Reid" last="Patterson"] of Lakeville South (6’2 SG). Patterson is one of the two best shooting prospects in the state of Minnesota’s 2021 class. He led South into the top ten earlier than expected this season while averaging 18 points a game. A top quarterback prospect but also a scholarship level shooter that also played PG for his team.

[player_tooltip player_id="774901" first="Jackson" last="Purcell"] of Eastview (6’4 SG). A very interesting player that we are excited to see play in a bigger role. Purcell is a solid athlete in a good frame that came off the bench for Eastview as a top defender. He also scored 3-4 baskets a game hitting a solid percentage at the arc but Jackson has the size to finish at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="774806" first="Zach" last="Spann"] of Eastview (6’5 SF). When it comes to athletic potential few can match what [player_tooltip player_id="774806" first="Zach" last="Spann"] has. Spann has one of the best vertical leaps in the state of Minnesota allowing him to be an explosive finisher and rebounder. If he can put his physical gifts to use Zach can be a scholarship talent.

Jaelen Treml of Hopkins (6’4 SF). Treml is the perfect fit for this team as he’s a well coached Hopkins talent that rarely forces his offense but has the potential to be a high percentage shooter. Treml has played some lead guard and he’s played on the wing also defending both positions with success.
