With “The Circuit” being on hold for the moment and a lot of players not yet playing varsity basketball its tough to evaluate some prospects.
However, here is a list of guard prospects who we know are ready for the big show.
Alex Odam Alex Odam 6'3" | SG Piedmont | 2023 State AL , 6’0 SG, Piedmont: This kid has the potential to be the top player in the state once we start ranking this class. He is a legit triple threat scorer with the ability to dribble, pass, and shoot at a very high level. Definitely one player college coaches should get to know early.
Johntarius Green Johntarius Green 6'0" | PG Montgomery Catholic | 2023 AL , 6’0 PG, Montgomery Catholic: Another potential top 5 player in this class. This prospect is a blur with the ball in his hand. He is a true floor general with the skill to score all while running a team. It’s in this kid’s DNA to become a high-level player.
Carson Muse Carson Muse 6'6" | SG West Morgan | 2023 State AL , 6’6 SG, West Morgan: This big guard is a poster waiting to happen. His size and ability from the wing position is special already. He shoots the ball extremely well from deep and has a good first step that allows him to beat his defenders with a hard dribble to the paint. Defenders better not challenge him at the rim as he has learned early how to make defenders memes.
John Broom John Broom 6'5" | SG Jacksonville | 2023 State AL , 6’4 SG, Jacksonville: A scoring machine who has the length and skillset to be a very good player. The lefty shoots it very well from three and is relentless at attacking the basket. His ball-handling is improving which is allowing him to help with lead guard duties. Another one who would be battling for a top 10 spot in the class if this were a ranking.
JaMari Arnold JaMari Arnold 5'10" | PG Huntsville | 2023 State AL , 5’9 PG, Columbia: A speedy scoring pg who was the starting point guard on a 6A basketball team and held his own all season long. He plays like he is well beyond his years. He needs to continue to get stronger to handle the physicality of the level he plays on, but right now is one of the better point guards in this class.
Will Bagley Will Bagley 6'3" | SG Gadsden HS | 2023 State AL , 6’3 SG, Gadsen: A flat out shooter. This kid can stroke it from deep beyond the 3-point line. He has great size for a second guard which allows him to get off his shot over the top of opponents. He needs to continue to work on his lateral quickness and ability to breakdown defenders off the dribble who try and closeout hard and run him off the three-point line.
Cody Baerlocher Cody Baerlocher 6'7" | SG Madison Academy | 2023 State AL , 6’5 SG, Madison Academy: A marksmen from behind the three-point line. A pure shooter with elite level size already. His ability to shoot the basketball with defenders in his face is very high level. His size allows him to see over the defense which makes him a very good passer from his position. Puts the ball on the floor well for three or four dibbles and has a very good pull up midrange game. Keep your eyes on this prospect for the next few years to come.
