Right now, we’re going to look at how the rankings are broken down by position. Here’s a look at part one of the wings rankings, looking at some of the shooting guards and small forwards in the class.
#20 Curtis Allen Curtis Allen 6'2" | SF Prince George | 2022 State VA | 6’3” | Princes George (#58 Overall)
Allen is a stocky guard who can use his size to bang in the post but really thrives with his skill set on the perimeter. He’s a knock down shooter from deep with good range, he can use his size to attack closeouts and finish in the paint and he’s an excellent rebounder from the wing position as well. As he continues to improve his body he’ll be a sleeper in the Richmond area for sure.
#19 Jayson Easton Jayson Easton 6'4" | SG James River (Buchanan VA) | 2022 State VA | 6’3” | Allegheny (#55 Overall)
A sleeper in the 540 at the northern tip of the Timesland area, Easton had a huge year for Allegheny scoring it at a high clip all year including multiple 30 point and even a few 40 point games this year. A wing with good size and underrated athleticism, he’s a guy who can score it from all over the floor whether he’s on the ball or working off of it to catch and shoot. He’s a tough kid with a go-getter mentality and he brings it every time he steps on the floor.
#18 Davien Banks Davien Banks 6'2" | SG LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 6’2” | LC Bird (#54 Overall)
Banks is part of a talented ’22 class at Bird that should continue to develop and will have a chance to make a lot of noise in the state next year. He’s a solid two way wing that plays with good energy on both ends, he makes shots when he’s set on kick outs and he’s able to attack in straight lines and finish through contact. He’s steadily improving and with more opportunity will be able to show what he can do more consistently.
#17 Nate Pabis Nate Pabis 6'5" | SF Flint Hill | 2023 State VA | 6’3” | Flint Hill (#52 Overall)
Flint Hill loses their top three contributors next season and with that happening Pabis will be one of the guys up next. He needs to continue to work on his body but he has a great skill set on the perimeter that includes the ability to hit from deep at a very high clip with good range and a quick release. He has good size that allows him to get his shot off and he can go in the post as well.
#16 John Loughlin John Loughlin 6'1" | CG Episcopal | 2022 State VA | 6’2” | Episcopal (#47 Overall)
Another shooter that will have a lot more opportunity next year in the NOVA area, Laoghlin is a guy who has played high level AAU ball and has simply been behind more experienced guys on a very talented and successful program. He has a great feel when he’s off the ball as he moves well to get open, he can make shots on the move coming off of screens and he’s extremely consistent from deep as well.
#15 Jadon Wilson Jadon Wilson 6'4" | SF Richmond Christian | 2022 VA | 6’3” | Richmond Christian (#46 Overall)
Wilson is an under the radar wing in the Richmond area that had a breakout year for RCS and was named to the VISAA All State team. He’s an active wing with a good skill set that can make shots from all three levels, put it on the deck and get to his spots and he’s an excellent rebounder at his size as well. He needs to continue to improve his body to become more athletic but he can score it with the best of them.
#14 Jacob Rice Jacob Rice 6'7" | SF Miller School | 2022 State VA | 6’5” | Blue Ridge (#39 Overall)
Rice is a guy who not many know because he played on a state champion team that had tons of upperclassmen talent, but it’s only a matter of time before he breaks onto the scene moving forward. A local Charlottesville kid with great size and good athleticism, he has all of the tools to be a scholarship level kid moving forward. He can shoot it from deep, he defends multiple positions and he plays with a good motor on both ends as well.
#13 Piercen Young Piercen Young 6'4" | SG Virginia Episcopal | 2022 State VA | 6’3” | Virginia Episcopal (#38 Overall)
Young headed to VES and reclassified to the 2022 class after a very successful two years at Brookville and he showed a lot more this year than he has in the past. He’s a good sized wing that’s an above average athlete that showed he can play on the ball and make good reads and good passes with it in his hands. He’s a guy who can shoot it from deep, he has great feel and makes the right plays on both ends and he plays with great toughness and will do what it takes to help his team win.
#12 Garrett Brennan | 6’2” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#37 Overall)
Brennan is a guy who should get more opportunity next year with a host of seniors graduating and moving on to college, but don’t expect SSSAS to rebuild as they have guys waiting like Brennan. A wing with great feel that can play on or off the basketball, he’s good at making plays within the system and is a guy who can make shots and make plays off the bounce as well. He’s a two way guy who still has room to improve and should be a breakout guy next year.
#11 Deshawn Goodwyn Deshawn Goodwyn 6'4" | SG George Wythe | 2022 State VA | 6’3” | George Wythe (#36 Overall)
One of the best pure shooters in the state, Goodwyn is a guy who can light it up from deep and isn’t afraid to get them up as his ability to hit from deep means they run a lot of plays for him and he gets a lot of shots up. He’s a guy who works well off the basketball to get open, he can put it on the deck and get to his spots and he has unlimited range when he passes half court. There’s a good chance he’s going to set some records for three-point shooting before his career is over.
