While typical rankings updates will feature a lot of guys that make rise up in the rankings, our update may have been more about the newcomers entering in so in truth, most guys’ rank actually fell down. However, there were there three key guys that made moves up – and they are our stock risers in this iteration of the rankings.
Luke Johnson Luke Johnson 6'8" | PF Central Catholic | 2022 WV , Central Catholic – #8 to #2
The biggest leap in the rankings was made by Johnson, who despite his age on an extremely deep and talented team, make the jump into the starting lineup and was outright a force at times. The 6-foot-8 forward became the team’s go-to guy in the post and he also showed plenty of ability to step out and knock down face-up jumpers. Johnson runs the floor well and finishes at the rim and perhaps the only thing stopping him from achieving his potential on the basketball is his love of the gridiron – he’s in the running to start for the Rams at quarterback next season.
Samaje Morgan Samaje Morgan 5'9" | PG Churchill | 2022 State OR , Churchill – #5 to #3
It’s a slight move up but an important one as Morgan stepped into the starting lineup for Churchill and was a key part of their success this season. The point guard is arguably the quickest player in the state at any age and he drove other teams nuts on both ends of the floor with his speed. While he will always lack size, he will continue to make up for it with his motor and heart.
Dezman Baker Dezman Baker 6'3" | SF Mountainside | 2022 State OR , Mountainside – #14 to #13
A one spot jump doesn’t seem like a lot, but Baker survived the rash of newcomers into the rankings and also leapfrogged his teammate at Mountainside, Christian Rowell Christian Rowell 6'7" | SF Lake Oswego | 2022 State OR (who was previously at #10). The 6-foot-3 wing did his usual thing getting to the hoop and finishing but Baker started to help out with ball-handling duties and was also huge on defense, with steals and blocked shots. Baker is a reliable jump shot away from really being hard to handle for defenders.
