Right now, we’re going to look at how the rankings are broken down by position. Here’s a look at part one of the bigs rankings, looking at some of the power forwards and centers in the class.
#20 Quentin Toulson Quentin Toulson 6'5" | PF Collegiate | 2022 VA | 6’5” | Collegiate (#63 Overall)
Toulson was part of a young Collegiate group that had their ups and downs but he got valuable playing time this year for his development. He’s a guy who can play both in transition and in the half court, he has touch out past the free throw line and he can protect the paint with his fundamental defense as well.
#19 Zach Bolgert Zach Bolgert 6'7" | PF Fairfax Christian School | 2022 State VA | 6’7” | Fairfax Christian (#56 Overall)
Bolgert is a breakout guy in the NOVA area and was one of the most consistent players on a talented Fairfax Christian team this year. The 6’7” big man is a stretch four that is a walking mismatch as a guy who can step out and make shots, score in the paint with his back to the basket or in face up situations and he rebounds well on both ends of the floor.
#18 Henry Sullivan Henry Sullivan 6'6" | PF Western Albemarle | 2022 State VA | 6’6” | Western Albemarle (#53 Overall)
Sullivan has steadily gotten better for Western over the past few years and with the departure of senior All State big man Tommy Magrum he’ll be the go-to guy for them next year. He’s a long big that’s a good athlete and can run in transition, he has soft touch around the rim and can score with his back to the basket and he can get points on the offensive glass as well. He really thrives on the defensive end where he’s a fundamentally sound defender with great timing as a shot blocker.
#17 Obinna Okafor Obinna Okafor 6'6" | PF Bethel | 2022 State VA | 6’6” | Bethel (#45 Overall)
Okafor is a high upside big man with great physical tools and a budding skill set that should improve with time. He’s a mobile guy who holds down the paint on the defensive end, he can score in transition and with his back to the basket and he’s only just now scratching the surface with how good he could be moving forward.
#16 Brayvion Campbell Brayvion Campbell 6'6" | PF Kings Fork | 2022 VA | 6’6” | King’s Fork (#44 Overall)
Campbell had a great start to the year before injuries derailed him and had him on the bench for much of the season. Campbell is young and still somewhat raw but he has great intangibles as far as his high motor on both ends, his ability to run the floor and he’s a guy who can face up as well and blow by guys. He rebounds well and plays with a chip, and if he continues to develop you could see him moving well up this list.
#15 Elliott Black Elliott Black 6'6" | PF St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2022 State VA | 6’5” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#43 Overall)
Black is a guy who has shown great potential and will likely have more opportunity to prove himself with SSSAS losing many of their top performers from over the past few years. He has great physical and athletic tools, he plays with good energy on both ends of the floor and he’s part of a winning program that has a good reputation for developing players which bolds well for him moving forward.
#14 Camron Kearney Camron Kearney 6'4" | SF Moravian Prep | 2022 NC | 6’5” | Salem (VB) (#42 Overall)
Kearney isn’t so much of a true big man as he is more of a hybrid forward that forces mismatches with his skill set and his athleticism. He’s forced to play in the post on his high school team because of his size but he’s shown that he can switch and guard on the perimeter and his offensive game is very perimeter oriented as he’s able to put it on the deck and create shots off the bounce. He can shoot it from deep, he’s an athletic finisher and should continue to transition to being on the wing full time moving forward.
#13 James Bell, III James Bell, III 6'7" | PF Collegiate School | 2022 State VA | 6’7” | Goochland (#33 Overall)
Bell is an extremely intriguing prospect at a small school that should continue to improve and turn heads with his mix of size and touch at the power forward position. He needs to fill out but he’s extremely mobile and can get up and down the floor, he shoots it well out to the three-point line and his length and quickness off his feet allow him to rebound and protect the rim as well. He’s a guy who has shown improvement already and should continue to get better moving forward.
#12 Christian Carden Christian Carden 6'4" | PF Varina | 2022 State VA | 6’4” | Varina (#28 Overall)
Carden was one of a number of breakout players on a young Varina team that surprised many teams in the Richmond area by making it back to the state tournament. He’s a mismatch guy that can play with the ball in his hands where he can put it on the deck and create space, he’s extremely consistent from the midrange and he can rebound with guys much bigger than him as well. One of the things that really sets him apart is his ability to make plays and pass at a high level for his size.
#11 Kyrese Mullens | 6’6” | Massanutten (#27 Overall)
Mullens headed over to Massanutten where he reclassified to the 2022 class, but he played on their post graduate team against guys two and three years older than him. He looks like a totally different kid as he’s in better shape now allowing him to play for longer periods of time and allowing him to play on the wing more as well. He’s a physical guy on both ends of the floor, he’s surprisingly quick for his size and he showed improvement on his ability to stretch the floor and make plays on the perimeter as well.
