Mid-range jumpers, long 3-pointers, quick drives to the basket; seeing someone in their zone on the offensive end of the floor is as memorable as it gets.
The state of Iowa has produced some incredible talent over the past few years, and the current class of juniors around the state are ready to soar to new heights next season.
Here’s a look at the top scorers in the Class of 2021:
Trey Shearer Trey Shearer 5'10" | PG Montezuma | 2021 State IA , Montezuma (2021)
Headed to play for former Iowa legend Jeff Horner at Truman State, Trey Shearer Trey Shearer 5'10" | PG Montezuma | 2021 State IA finished behind only soon-to-be Northern Iowa Panther Bowen Born Bowen Born 5'11" | PG Norwalk | 2020 State #401 Nation IA on the state scoring charts this past year.
Shearer averaged 25 points a night, shooting almost 62 percent from the floor with 55 made 3-pointers. He also was nearly automatic at the free throw line, sinking 83 percent of his shots.
Analysis: Along with his incredible ability to score from all over the court, Shearer posted a 142-to-42 assist-to-turnover ratio and added 66 steals and 106 rebounds this past year.
Tucker DeVries Tucker DeVries 6'7" | SF Waukee | 2021 State #123 Nation IA , Waukee (2021)
Alongside fellow junior Payton Sandfort Payton Sandfort 6'7" | SF Waukee | 2021 State #138 Nation IA , the Warriors have one of the top players in the Class of 2021 in Tucker DeVries Tucker DeVries 6'7" | SF Waukee | 2021 State #123 Nation IA .
DeVries averaged over 21 points a game this past winter, shooting 57 percent from the field with 77 made 3-pointers. He also had 204 rebounds, 122 assists and 39 steals, adding 16 blocks to his stat line.
Analysis: DeVries, who holds offers already from Creighton, Drake, South Dakota State and Air Force, is likely positioned to receive even more over the upcoming months as he continues to improve his game.
Cooper DeJean Cooper DeJean 6'2" | CG OABCIG | 2021 State IA , OABCIG (2021)
It’s hard to find something Cooper DeJean Cooper DeJean 6'2" | CG OABCIG | 2021 State IA can’t do.
DeJean, who committed to the University of Iowa to play football after leading OABCIG to the state title last fall, averaged 25.6 points per game this winter. He also was the Falcon leader in rebounds, assists and steals.
Analysis: If he wanted, DeJean would have colleges coming hard after him to play basketball after shooting 52 percent from the field and getting to the line 166 times this past year.
Karson Sharar Karson Sharar 6'2" | SG Iowa Falls-Alden | 2021 State IA , Iowa Falls-Alden (2021)
Also a football standout, Karson Sharar Karson Sharar 6'2" | SG Iowa Falls-Alden | 2021 State IA will have a decision to make regarding his own future.
Sharar, who plays for Michael Collison at Iowa Falls-Alden, took over as the top player in the North Central Conference this past year after averaging 23.6 points per game with 72 made 3-pointers, 161 rebounds, 65 assists and 55 steals.
Analysis: A threat from any spot on the floor, Sharar will look to improve his 40 percent shooting over the summer and heading into his senior season.

When Kieren Nichols Kieren Nichols 5'11" | PG Knoxville | 2021 State IA wanted to score, there wasn’t much the competition could do to stop him.
Nichols averaged just under 26 points per game for Knoxville this past season, shooting 47 percent from the floor with 46 made 3-pointers. He also worked his way to the free throw line often, attempting 122 shots and making 72 percent of them.
Analysis: Nichols, who also led his team with 86 assists, joined the 1,000-point club this year and will be adding quite a bit to that total next year.
Camden Schroeder Camden Schroeder 6'5" | SF East Sac County | 2021 State IA , East Sac County (2021)
A double-double machine, Camden Schroeder Camden Schroeder 6'5" | SF East Sac County | 2021 State IA averaged 22.5 points per game this past winter for the Raiders.
Schroeder, a force inside, found his touch from deep as well. The junior shot 62 percent from the field and almost 44 percent from the 3-point line, knocking down 41 triples in all.
Analysis: A huge leap from sophomore to junior, Schroeder will look to keep it going this coming year both over the summer and into the fall.
