In this series we dive into the 40 premier performances from the year that we personally witnessed. Here is our Top Performances We Saw This Season: #36 – #40!
#36 Beau Frericks Beau Frericks 6'1" | PG Cary Grove | 2020 State IL (Cary Grove)
In their matchup with Glenbrook South Frericks showed he is an elite shot maker from three. Connected on a handful from beyond the arc including banking one in to start and drilling an incredibly deep one late that was a huge shot for his team. Can shoot it off the bounce, pulling up, or off the catch. Much more than just a shooter however as he showcased his shifty ball handling juking defenders creating points for himself and others. Had an impressive take where he split the defense for a bucket. Crisp passer that got his big man the ball and found his shooter for spot up threes. Went for 24 points.
#37 Saiveon Williams Saiveon Williams 6'5" | SF Curie | 2020 State IL (Curie)
Williams brings a high activity level and physicality around the hoop for scores. He was all over the glass throughout the night against Niles Notre Dame in a showcase game before the playoffs. Finishes well through contact and was excellent in the pick/roll game as a finisher at the rim. Quick and athletic in the paint allows him to play bigger than his height. Showed this summer he has wing skills on both ends of the floor. He had 22 points and was the difference maker against Niles Notre Dame.
#38 Garrett Horner Garrett Horner 6'5" | SF Wheaton North | 2020 State IL (Wheaton North)
Horner is at his best spotting up for three point shots. Went 5-10 from beyond the arc against Brother Rice at the Jack Tosh Classic. Mixed in several tough straight line takes using his upper body strength to score in the paint. Scored 28 points.
#39 Julian Campbell Julian Campbell 6'6" | C Palatine | 2021 State IL (Palatine)
The junior post has a wide body which creates space on the interior. Campbell is a skilled guy though too. He hit a pair of threes against Willowbrook and several mid-range jumpers in this game. The aspect that we liked was he didn’t live and die with that though like we had seen earlier in his career. Finished well around the hoop with hook shots, and-1s, put backs, spin moves, and converting dump offs. Not the best athlete and doesn’t have much lift at this stage. Did run the floor hard for one bucket. Quality area rebounder that did a nice job grabbing boards on both ends. Campbell finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
#40 Kimahri Wilson Kimahri Wilson 6'2" | PG North Chicago | 2021 State IL (Carmel)
Wilson is one of the top junior point guards in the state. He did absolutely everything he could to keep his team in their playoff game against Deerfield. Wilson is a twitchy point guard that is shifty with the ball in his hands. Has it on a string and is quick getting through defenders in the lane. Made quite a few difficult layups including a Kyrie like reverse on the opposite side beating Lieb. Burst with the ball in his hands both in the half court and open floor. At times can be a bit wild with it and turnover prone. Like what he did passing throwing crisp dishes in the drive and kick game along with making quality reads on the dribble handoffs. Pesky defender that has a knack for getting steals. The biggest area he is going to have to work on this summer is his jumper. He only made one all night. Leans forward on it and even looks awkward at the free throw line with his shooting stance. To reach his full potential he will have to improve as a shooter, but there are a lot of things to like in this guard. He had 27 points on the night.
