In this series we dive into the 40 premier performances from the year that we personally witnessed. Here is our Top Performances We Saw This Season: #31 – #35!
#31 Grant Niego Grant Niego 6'0" | PG Lyons | 2020 State IL (Lyons)
The 6’2” point guard has gotten stronger in his upper body. He was spectacular at the Jack Tosh Classic against Rolling Meadows knocking down jumpers from all over the floor. Both his mid-range and three ball were falling at a high rate. Crisp moving away from the ball and has a quick release. For this team he has to take a lot of shots to win. That is exactly what he did going for 32 points (13-31 FG) in the victory. Also frustrated Christie on the other end.
#32 Ben Schwieger Ben Schwieger 6'5" | SG Waubonsie Valley | 2021 State #229 Nation IL (Waubonsie Valley)
What a night for this 6’5” junior shooting guard against Naperville Central! He has plus size and athleticism on the wing. Early on in the game it was his three point shot that was working for him opening up with a pair of threes from each corner. Then started to mix in the in between game with mid-range jumpers and turnaround fade aways. Excellent form on his shot. He gets elevation off the ground and has a fluid release on his jumper. Shoots it with a lot of confidence! Flashed the athleticism including on a tip slam off a teammates miss in transition. Quick and decisive moves to catch the ball. Defensively he moves his feet well being able to defend a couple different positions at the next level. Blocked three shots in this game with an explosive burst off the ground. Quality wing rebounder. He had 26 points.
#33 Adam Miller Adam Miller 6'4" | PG Morgan Park | 2020 State #34 Nation IL (Morgan Park)
It was a slow start for the recent Illinois verbal commit, but he got it rolling in the fourth quarter at the Chicago Elite Classic. The explosive scoring combo guard wasn’t super-efficient with his three point shot, but he did knock down 3-11 along with an array of mid-range jumpers. The three level scorer loves to attack downhill in transition going right at the defense for scores. Miller hit some huge shots in the second half for key buckets en route to 21 points and 6 rebounds. Was a big part of their big win over CBC.
#34 Donovan Jones Donovan Jones 6'0" | PG Solorio | 2022 IL (Solorio)
The top 10 sophomore prospect started things off the right way in their 8:30 AM game at the Jack Tosh Tournament in their final game of the tournament. High level shot maker especially from mid-range. He was able to get to his spots consistently where he rose up for shots whether it was from three or mid-range. Also showcased his ability to get to the rim off the bounce and to the charity stripe. He had 31 points (10-13 FG).
#35 Ty Johnson Ty Johnson 6'3" | PG Depaul Prep | 2021 State #198 Nation IL (DePaul Prep)
Johnson played both on and off the ball looking smooth either way at the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic against Richards in the opening round. Got to his spots on the floor where he could elevate for shots. Hit pull up threes and mid-range jumpers. Also handled it better than we had seen in the past looking very fluid off the bounce in a 27 point effort.
