Emoni Bates (Ypsilanti-Lincoln High School): Bates was recently named 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year. That just doesn’t happen as a sophomore. He is the best high school player I’ve ever seen in person and will only continue to get better in the next two years. The 6’8 forward is extremely smooth attacking the rim and has improved his defense and playmaking in his sophomore year. Bates, the top junior-to-be in the nation, has offers from Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, and more.
Ty Rodgers Ty Rodgers 6'6" | SF Grand Blanc | 2022 #34 Nation IN (Grand Blanc High School): Rodgers has an extremely physical game, and likes to move defenders with his upper body, which has led to interest from Louisville, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The 6’6 forward doesn’t take a lot of plays off and puts in a lot of work on the glass, which will translate to the next level. He needs to expand his perimeter game but has improved and should continue to during his junior season. He’s the second ranked player behind Bates.
Chris Mutebi Chris Mutebi 6'4" | SF University Of Detroit Jesuit And Academy | 2022 State MI (UD Jesuit): Mutebi is slightly underrated as the #22 player in Michigan’s 2022 rankings, but I think he has a chance to rise over the next couple of years. He is a bit undersized at 6’3, but has a ton of bounce, and can finish through and around defenders. Mutebi flies around on offense and defense, which leads to a lot of blocks, dunks, pass deflections, and rebounds. He isn’t the best passer on this list, but he is a willing passer, and will find teammates if they’re open.
Kyler Vanderjagt Kyler Vanderjagt 6'4" | 195 lbs | SF Northview | 2022 State MI (Northview High School): Vanderjagt is arguably the best 3-point shooter in his class and he has a great pull-up jumper off one dribble. He is the #7 ranked junior-to-be in the state and holds an offer from Ferris State. He has pretty deep range but will have to keep pushing that further out as he gets older. The 6’3 forward is also a bit undersized, so we could see him switch positions in the next two years. Vanderjagt can also finish around the rim but he doesn’t use his left hand very much.
Treyvon Lewis Treyvon Lewis 6'5" | SF Ferndale | 2022 State MI (Ferndale High School): Lewis gets the final spot on the list over guys like Jack Karasinski Jack Karasinski 6'5" | SF Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2022 State MI (Grand Rapids Catholic Central) and Max Burton Max Burton 6'10" | SF Williamston | 2022 State MI (Williamston High School). Lewis’ game reminds me of Landers Nolley II, the former Virginia Tech forward. The 6’5 forward shoots and makes a lot of threes, and has a smooth step back 3-point shot. He also has long arms, which allows him to get a lot of rebounds even when he doesn’t have inside position.
