Today we give you our list of power forwards college coaches should know, in Minnesota’s junior class. Players that would be competing on 17u teams with some of the best teams on several different circuits.
Attention High Major Programs!
Will Tschetter Will Tschetter 6'8" | PF Stewartville | 2021 State #96 Nation MN – a 6’8 power forward from Stewartville and Minnesota Heat.
Comparison – First we start with Alex Illikainen when it comes to massive low post production in big numbers from an outstate program with good players, but relies on Alex (Will) to produce a lot. So you take Alex and you add in the Shelby Moats shooting stroke (Will made 67 of 149 threes this year for 44.9 percent) and then you add part of that mean streak of Mike Rostampour and you have a Will Tschetter Will Tschetter 6'8" | PF Stewartville | 2021 State #96 Nation MN . Shelby played at Vandy, Alex played at Wisconsin, and Mike’s competitive fight has him on the Iranian national team right now. Mix in the best of that and you have Will Tschetter Will Tschetter 6'8" | PF Stewartville | 2021 State #96 Nation MN . High major? To even ask that question is dumb to me.
Why Will Over Others? Because he is well schooled on the court, as competitive as they come, an inside out threat coming off a 34/15 season, and he is only getting better.
Andrew Morgan Andrew Morgan 6'9" | C Waseca | 2021 State #178 Nation MN – a 6’9 power forward from Waseca and Minnesota Heat.
Comparison – Morgan reminds me of a much taller but not as explosive of Weston Baker Magrath. From the same area of the state and Morgan collects rebounds like they were available at Costco (in bulk). Morgan is starting to improve the face-up game but most of his production is near the rim.
Why Andrew Over Others? Morgan has the look of a Big Ten power forward in frame and agility, He rebounds in big numbers and gets off the ground quickly to finish. Morgan has skills to add but progress has been made there.
Attention D1 Programs!
Joshua Streit Joshua Streit 6'9" | PF Eden Valley Watkins | 2021 State MN – a 6’7 power forward from Eden Valley-Watkins and D1 Minnesota.
Comparison – Streit makes me think of Simon Wright in how he is an all around basketball player that is willing to defend, works hard, moves the ball well, is team orientated, and produces consistent numbers. Wright is more basketball experienced coming from Hopkins but Streit is from a family of scholarship football prospects that is also physically gifted.
Why Joshua Over Others? Physically ready from day one, a team first willing competitor that will find any way to contribute, and player that coaches will love.
Davon Townley – a 6’6 power forward from Minneapolis North and Grassroots Sizzle.
Comparison – Townley does things that remind me of Sy Chatman who was at UMass. Similar size, both have good explosion (Chatman’s explosion was more off the ground where as Townley’s is more going at the rim with his dribble or on the cut), and both are the type of 20/10 potential guys for good high school teams.
Why Davon Over Others? Townley is that active power forward that can play some with his back to the basket but he’s also an active off ball player.
Broden Lien Broden Lien 6'8" | PF ISA | 2021 MN – a 6’8 power forward from Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal and D1 Minnesota.
Comparison – The Broden Lien Broden Lien 6'8" | PF ISA | 2021 MN approach is like that of Logan Doyle in that he goes full out at all times looking to finish hard and rebound everything. Lien’s frame is closer to what Joey King was like in high school (few people have the Doyle bounce). Jumper has looked solid from what we saw last summer but most of his production was at the rim.
Why Broden Over Others? Lien is hungry to be successful. He wants to play for the best teams and play at the highest level he can and will work to the highest level he can.
Attention D1 & D2 Programs!
Drew Adams Drew Adams 6'8" | PF Eastridge | 2021 State MN – a 6’7 power forward from East Ridge and Minnesota Fury.
Comparison – Adams reminds me of the John Grigsby John Grigsby 6'9" | PF Park Center | 2020 State MN I saw played with his Colorado summer team that was picking up D2 offers with his face-up shooting stroke and size. More the size of Connor Bich and frame of the of the current DWU standout.
Why Drew Over Others? Adams scored about four baskets a game for one of the better teams in Class AAAA and he has the shooting stroke to be a stretch four.
Finn Diggins Finn Diggins 6'5" | PF Perham | 2021 State MN – a 6’5 power forward from Perham and West Central United.
Comparison – Diggins reminds me of Baden Noennig who is at Upper Iowa. Similar size and similar style of play for his team scoring at the rim, scoring on the move, and rebounding in numbers. Baden was more athletic than Diggins but Diggins is more aggressive/tougher leading to the bigger rebounding numbers.
Why Finn Over Others? Because he will be ready to physically compete other and he comes from a program that will have him educated.
Sam Privet Sam Privet 6'9" | PF Caledonia | 2021 State MN – a 6’8 power forward from Caledonia.
Comparison – Privet has the potential to be similar to Ethan Youso from Virginia who is at UMD. Privet has had the setbacks of a collapsed lung but during that injury he has grown to 6-foot-8 in a similar frame as Youso with similar agility.
Why Sam Over Others? Privet has just tapped his potential and at this moment we haven’t seen him enough to have a great feel but the views we have had were positive.
On That Scholarship Radar
Joe Alt Joe Alt 6'6" | C Totino-Grace | 2021 State MN (6’6) of Totino-Grace (high major offered football prospect)
Andrew Chisley Andrew Chisley 6'6" | PF Hopkins | 2021 State MN (6’6) of Hopkins.
Jack Iverson Jack Iverson 6'6" | PF Big Lake | 2021 State MN (6’6) of Big Lake.
Rowan Nelson Rowan Nelson 6'6" | PF Melrose | 2021 State MN (6’4) of Melrose.
Logan Purcell Logan Purcell 6'7" | C Annandale | 2021 State MN (6’7) of Annandale (Committed Gopher Football prospect)
Spencer Swanson Spencer Swanson 6'5" | PF Waconia | 2021 State MN (6’5) of Waconia
