With all travel ball events being put on indefinite hold, unsigned seniors didn’t get one final opportunity to showcase themselves to college coaches.
In addition to that, the NCAA transfer portal exploded and college coaches seemingly opted to go with more proven college talent than taking a chance on a senior in the absence of the spring live period.
Here’s some seniors I’ve watched this season who are still unsigned and could probably help a college team at some level whether that be D1-DIII or even NAIA and JuCo.
1. Jabari Steward Jabari Steward 6'7" | PF Compton | 2020 State CA-S – Compton
Steward is one of the better big man prospects in the SoCal area. He is strong in the paint and versatile too. He is talented in the post and can easily overpower defenders with his combination of strength and skill. He gets good position in the post and is decisive when making a move. Uses spin moves to get free. Can also stretch the floor and shoot from midrange and from three. Good shot blocker.
2. Joshua Lee – Price
Lee is a great scoring guard. He can create his own shot on the perimeter as well as in the paint. He has a good slashing game and a nice little floater when he gets in the lane. He can move well off ball in half court sets and he helps keep the offense moving and not stagnant. Good in transition. He is a solid outside shooter and fights for rebounds.
3. Yuuki Okubo – Crossroads
Okubo is an overall solid floor leader. He’s been an integral player for the Roadrunners as long as he’s been there. He’s got a quick first step and can get into the lane easily. Despite his size, he can finish strong over defenders in the paint. He has a good outside shot. Runs the offense well and looks to get his teammates easy shots. Good defender who tries hard on that end.
4. Dominic Woods Dominic Woods 6'3" | SG Gardena Serra | 2020 State CA-S – Serra
Woods has consistently shown his ability to score on the perimeter. When I first watched him play over a year ago, I was impressed at how effortless he makes scoring look and his offensive arsenal. He’s a shooter with range out to the three-point line. He can create his own shot and is a good midrange shooter. He can see the floor well and knows how to use the defensive pressure he draws to set up teammates.
5. Jaren Johnson Jaren Johnson 6'2" | SG Lynwood | 2020 State #322 Nation CA-S – Lynwood
Johnson is another flat out scorer who can get buckets. He can shoot from distance and he can put the ball on the floor and make plays off the dribble. He uses his size against smaller defenders and he can rise up and shoot over them. Also a strong defender on the perimeter. Has good length on that end of the floor. He has some playmaking ability too.
