For the class of 2021, this upcoming year is huge. Not only is it their final year of high school basketball, but it’s also one more shot at showcasing their game for college coaches.
Here’s a few players I’ve been able to watch this year who could take a big step forward as a senior.
1. Jaren Harris Jaren Harris 6'0" | CG Windward | 2021 State CA-S – Windward
Harris is a very solid and steady point guard. This upcoming season, he’ll really solidify his role as one of the leaders of a young Wildcats team. He pushes the ball in transition well. He can attack the rim and he finds cutters along the baseline. A solid drive and dish player. Good shooter under pressure. An overall tough and fearless player.
2. Jaylen Carter Jaylen Carter 6'3" | SF Manual Arts | 2021 State CA-S – Manual Arts
Carter is one of the more underrated scorers/players in all of Los Angeles. He can play either wing spots and he has some playmaking to his game as well. He’s a very good three-point shooter, automatic when he’s open. He can step into his shot well and he can score from anywhere on the court. Good defensive player on the wing.
3. Rashaad Laws – Manual Arts
When I first watched Laws play back in January, he stood out most for his ability on the defensive end. He is a good defensive player on the perimeter. He reads passing lanes well and he can pick off passes and start a fast break. He’s a solid rebounder. Very active on the glass; can secure offensive rebounds for put-backs. Good length; good elevation on his jump shot.
4. Simeon Grant – Cleveland
The first time I watched Grant play, he stood out as a player who can be an effective perimeter and shooter. He’ll be an incoming senior so his development will be crucial. He already has a pretty solid midrange game and a solid elbow jumper. He also has a decent pull-up jumper. He’s efficient in that he gets to where he wants to go on the court in one to two dribbles.
