Over the upcoming weeks, we will dive deep into the main statistical categories of the top-scoring, three-point shooting, rebounding, and defensive players in each district, as well as our All-District team selections.

This week we will cover District 27-6A, which features high school programs: Churchill Chargers, Johnson Jaguars, Lee Volunteers, MacArthur Brahmas, Madison Mavericks, Reagan Rattlers, Roosevelt Rough Riders, and South San Antonio Bobcats.

We shift our focus from offense to defense as we dive into some of the top defensive playmakers from District 27-6A. Highlighting stats such as blocks, steals, and charges, each of these players made impactful defensive plays for their respective teams this past season.
Here are the top defenders from District 27-6A in 2019-20:
Garrett Prince – 6-8 Center – MacArthur (2020)
- During his senior campaign, Prince was dominant in the paint averaging 1.3 blocks per game. Constantly altering opponents’ shots, he totaled 32 blocks in the 24 games that were logged.
Rashod Owens – 6-2 Forward – Roosevelt (2020)
- In 17 games logged, Owens was great at getting his hands on the ball on defense creating 48 total steals. His 2.8 steals per game average led the district.
Corey Jackson – 5-10 Guard – Roosevelt (2021)
- As a junior, Jackson accumulated 43 total steals in 19 games logged, giving him 2.3 steals per game average. Jackson and Owens were a dynamic defensive duo for the Rough Riders in 2019-20, and Jackson will look to carry it over into his senior season in 2020-21.
Jonas Carlisle – 6-2 Guard – South San Antonio (2021)
- Carlisle led the district in total steals with 64, averaging 1.9 steals per contest over 34 games for the Bobcats.
Manuel Paredez – 5-8 Guard – South San Antonio (2020)
- Like his teammate Carlisle, Paredez was a menace on the defensive end totaling 58 steals in 32 games, giving him 1.8 average per game.
Zach Lee – 6-0 Guard – Reagan (2020)
- Lee was a machine at taking charges during his senior season averaging one per contest over 32 games logged (32 total).
Chris Ricondo – 6-2 Forward – South San Antonio (2020)
- Ricondo was a close second to Lee in taking charges in 2019-20, totaling 28 over the course of 35 games logged.
