These rankings include all classes between 2021, 2022 and 2023 and are based on how good we think the prospects will be at the next level. This is one of the hardest things to do because it encompasses all classes, but should be great for debates throughout the cities.
With no further ado, here’s a look at 15-6 for the Hampton Roads area.
15) Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 5'11" | PG Oscar Smith | 2022 NV | 5’10” PG | Oscar Smith 2022
Giles isn’t the biggest guy on this list but he’s shown time and time again that he can impact the game in multiple ways and his size doesn’t change that. He’s a guy who shoots it extremely well when he’s off the ball, he handles pressure and gets his team into sets when he’s on the ball and he routinely hounds the basketball on the defensive end as well. He has a great IQ and is highly skilled, and on top of that he’s extremely productive and doesn’t force things either.
14) Judah Egbo Judah Egbo 6'7" | C Life Christian Academy | 2023 State VA | 6’7” PF | Jamestown 2022
Egba is a guy who just starting to scratch the surface with his potential but he could be a guy who takes a leap on this list and is someone I fully admit I underrated. He has great mobility at his size as a guy who can run the floor and switch and guard multiple positions, he’s long and quick off his feet as a rim protector and finisher and he plays with great energy when he’s on the floor. If he continues to develop on the offensive end he’ll be a guy division one coaches will love.
13) Christian Moore Christian Moore 6'1" | CG Cape Henry | 2021 State VA | 6’0” PG | Cape Henry 2021
Moore is a guy who would have really benefited from the live periods had they happened these past few weeks as high academics would have been all over him. He’s a slender guard who isn’t the most athletic guy but he’s a bucket getter who can create for himself off the bounce and can shoot it with great range off the catch as well. He’s extremely crafty and savvy on both ends of the floor and can get it done against pretty much anyone who’s thrown out there.
12) Quentin Livingston Quentin Livingston 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WF | King’s Fork 2021
Livingston was the do-it-all guy for KF this year as he was possibly their most versatile throughout the year. The 6’4” wing played on the perimeter and in the post, he guards multiple positions very well and he’s a guy who impact the game in a number of ways including scoring and rebounding the basketball. He has good ball skills in transition, he can play above the rim and he shoots it pretty well from deep as well.
11) Matt Nunez Matt Nunez 6'11" | C Hargrave | 2022 VA | 6’10” C | Walsingham 2021
Nunez is a throwback big man who’s still somewhat of a project but has a lot of tools and upside to him moving forward. This year at Walsingham he showed improvement in his production and aggressiveness both on the glass and on the offensive end, and he’s shown great touch around the basket and the ability to pass out of the post as well. He holds an offer from William & Mary and should see more stuff come around if we can ever play this summer.
10) George Beal George Beal 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | King’s Fork 2022
The unheralded glue guy for KF this year, Beal is chock full of potential as he has good physical and athletic tools and can do a little bit of everything on the court. At 6’4” he’s extremely long and bouncy, he can guard multiple positions and he plays with great energy on both ends of the floor. He’s a guy who just needs more opportunities to show what he can do on the offensive end, but even when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands he finds a way to make an impact on the game.
9) Greg Melvin Greg Melvin 6'7" | PF Cape Henry | 2022 State VA | 6’7” PF | Cape Henry 2022
Melvin isn’t one of the first names mentioned when you talk about the best prospects in the area, however his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor is very impressive. The 6’7” forward is long, athletic and very strong, and he plays with great energy that makes him a monster on the glass and a guy who is tough to match up with. He plays well in transition, he’s able to make plays without the ball in his hands and if he continues to improve his perimeter skill set he’ll even have the chance to branch out and play multiple positions both on the wing and in the post.
8) Kanye Clary Kanye Clary 5'11" | PG Massanutten | 2022 State VA | 5’11” PG | Princess Anne 2022
With all the talk about elite guards in the 2022 class in the 757, for some reason Clary is often left out of the conversation of best guards in the area when he is in fact right up there. He isn’t the biggest guy but he’s super dynamic off the bounce where he changes speeds well and is lightning quick, he has terrific feel and passing ability and he has good finishing ability at the rim and in the midrange. He thinks the game very well, he leads on both ends and he continues to improve as a shooter from deep.
7) Dominic Stanford Dominic Stanford 6'4" | SG Kempsville | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WG | Kempsville 2021
Stanford is the breakout prospect of the 757 area this year and I would highly recommend division one coaches take a look at him when given the opportunity. He’s a guy who really would have benefited from the live periods as he hasn’t gotten too much exposure outside of high school, but the way that he’s grown both physically and as a player has him looking like any brainer division one kid. At 6’4” he’s a natural athlete who plays above the rim, he can create his own shot off the bounce and he’s a knock down shooter from deep who can use his size to get shots off when defended closely.
6) Bryson Spell Bryson Spell 6'7" | PF Cape Henry | 2021 State VA | 6’8” PF | Cape Henry 2021
Spell is one of the hottest prospects in the entire state of VA as he recently pulled in his first ACC offer from Virginia Tech. Spell has some great physical tools as he’s grown to a legitimate 6’8” and put on a good amount of muscle over the past few years, and he’s become more and more confident throughout the process as well. He’s a stretch big who can pull other bigs out of the paint with his ability to shoot the ball from deep, he has surprisingly good ball skills for his size as he can put it on the deck in isolation situations and he’s a good passer and rebounder as well.
