These rankings include all classes between 2021, 2022 and 2023 and are based on how good we think the prospects will be at the next level. This is one of the hardest things to do because it encompasses all classes, but should be great for debates throughout the cities.
With no further ado, here’s a look at 25-16 for the Hampton Roads area.
25) Ryan Hite | 6’0” PG | King’s Fork 2023
Hite wasn’t a go-to guy this year because the King’s Fork group that won the state championship was so talented, however he showed flashes of being a very good player moving forward. He’s a strong and athletic guard who competes on both ends, he can play on or off the basketball where he can make shots from deep and he has a great IQ for a guard his age.
24) Jayson Harris Jayson Harris 6'6" | PF Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’6” PF | Menchville 2021
Harris had a breakout year at Menchville even if the guards got all of the love. He’s a throwback style big man that is a brute in the paint with soft touch over both shoulders and good footwork when he catches it on the block as well. He’s able to run the floor and rebound well and he should be a guy that gets scholarship looks moving forward.
23) LaSean Lee LaSean Lee 6'6" | PF Norview | 2021 State VA | 6’8” PF | Norview 2021
Lee has dealt with some injuries that had him miss the entire season last year, one in which Norview was the Class 5 State Champions. Still, in his time during his sophomore season and last summer he showed that he’s a guy who can do a lot of things on the block. He has great hands and good footwork, he has plenty of moves and counters on the block and he can both score and pass it well when it’s thrown into him.
22) Xavier Brown Xavier Brown 6'2" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2023 VA | 6’1” PG | Jamestown 2022
Brown is a guy who is trending upwards right now in the 757 area and he could move up this list as he continues to grow and improve. He’s a guy with great energy and intangibles, he’s a natural born leader that is always encouraging and talking and he’s a playmaker that’s quick off the bounce and athletic in the lane. He’s a two way guy that makes winning plays and never backs down when he’s on the floor.
21) Kaleb Brown | 6’2” WG | Nansemond-Suffolk 2023
Brown was arguably the best freshman in the 757 this year as he had multiple games of 20+ points and even a few games of 30+ as well. He’s a sniper of a guard who can knock down shots from deep with regularity, he’s very strong for his age with a good frame and he has room to improve off the bounce as well. If he can continue to develop his on ball skill set he’ll be a guy that could jump this list moving forward.
20) Kuron Coleman Kuron Coleman 6'4" | SG Woodside | 2021 State VA | 6’3” WG | Woodside 2021
Coleman is one of the most underrated players in the 757 and is a guy that coaches should really look at moving forward with his blend of size and shooting ability. He’s a guy who shoots it extremely well from deep with consistent form and good range, and he’s a very smart player on both ends who knows where to be and uses his length to make plays defensively.
19) Camron Kearney Camron Kearney 6'4" | SF Moravian Prep | 2022 NC | 6’5” F | Salem 2022
Kearney is a guy who has all of the tools to be a very good player and get recruited at a high level if he continues to improve and learn the game. At 6’5” he’s extremely long and very bouncy, he can put it on the deck and create his own shot and he can score from multiple levels as well. If he buys into playing on the wing and on both ends of the floor and learns to be productive without the ball in his hands he’s a guy who could really impress college coaches moving forward.
18) Jacob Cooper Jacob Cooper 5'9" | PG Green Run | 2021 State VA | 5’8” PG | Green Run 2021
The reigning Beach District and Class 5 Player of the Year isn’t the biggest guy but the way he impacts the game on both ends is huge. He’s a natural floor general that is very cerebral with the ball in his hands, he’s crafty off the bounce and he’s a dual threat guy that can both score it and make others on his team better. He’s a talented shot maker off the bounce and he’s a natural leader that guys look up to and follow without questioning.
17) Kendon Peebles Kendon Peebles 6'4" | SF Catholic | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WG | Hampton Christian 2022
Peebles was the breakout guy this year on the Peninsula District and with his athleticism and motor college coaches should fall in love with him easily. He’s a strong kid who can slash and use his size to finish through traffic, he plays way above the rim on both ends of the floor and he never stops playing hard when he’s on the floor. He’s a kid who should continue to improve and get better and with more opportunities to get seen he’ll be a guy many coaches like.
16) DeJuan Campbell DeJuan Campbell 6'1" | PG Kecoughtan | 2022 State VA | 6’0” PG | Kecoughtan 2022
Campbell is a guy who at the high school level is as good or better than most of the guys on this list, as he’s led the Peninsula in scoring the past two years and has already eclipsed the 1,000 point mark. He’s dynamic in transition off the bounce with great end-to-end speed, he draws contact regularly where he can finish through it or get to the line and he stays in attack mode throughout the game. If he continues to work on impacting the game outside of scoring the ball he’ll see his stock shoot through the roof.
