Several players left a positive impression, and with the high school season over, and grassroots at a halt, now looks like a good time to catch up with some of our top performers from those Expos and see how their seasons went. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top performers from our Portland Expo.
Brian Goracke Brian Goracke 6'5" | SF Churchill | 2020 State OR 6’5 SG Churchill 2020 (#1PHO 2020) – I was fortunate to catch a couple Churchill games this season during the Les Schwab Invitational. Really loved watching him display his competitiveness, and shooting. I thought he was the best player on the floor against Norcross, a team featuring 3 high major prospects. The 6’5 wing helped the Lancers to a 25-3 season. He will be heading to Point Loma Nazarene next season.
Kaelan O’Neil Kaelan O’Neil 6'5" | SF Churchill | 2020 State OR 6’5 SG Churchill 2020 (#3PHO 2020) – The flashy O’Neil was co-MVP of our fall Expo along with his high school teammate Goracke. During the season he served as an uber swiss army knife, carving up opponents with his passing, rebounding, and playmaking. He will be headed to play at Eastern Washington University next season.
Keegan Shivers Keegan Shivers 6'4" | SF Wilsonville | 2020 State OR 6’4 SF Wilsonville 2020 (#29PHO 2020) – The sharpshooting Shivers was a playmaking shooter during our expo. His shot-making ability, and rebounding helped Wilsonville to a 23 win season. He will be headed to OIT next year.
Jesse White Jesse White 6'0" | CG Sam Barlow | 2020 State OR 6’0 SG Barlow 2020 (#6PHO 2020) (featured image) – White was lethal shooting the ball off screens and in knockdown situations during the Expo. After a sluggish start, White was the catalyst for one of the hottest clubs in the state, helping Barlow rip off 14 straight to end the season.
Mason VanBeenen Mason VanBeenen 6'9" | PF West Linn | 2022 State OR 6’9 SF West Linn 2022 (#7PHO 2022) – MVB was one of the revelations of the Expo. The lean wing showed a terrific skill-set including agility, athleticism, and the ability to stretch the floor to about 18. It was an up and down high school season for the sophomore, but he did have his high moments including a 9 rebound performance against Barlow.
