Continue ReadingLouisiana had a great prep season in all classifications. The junior class had players step up throughout the various classifications to show how talented they were. Because of that, we at Prep Hoops created a class of 2021 All state team. This team will consist of the players we feel were the best of the best in the junior class in Louisiana.
1st Team
Derrick Tezeno Derrick Tezeno 6'5" | SF North Central | 2021 State LA / 6’4″ / North Central – Tezeno is the best all around player for the Hurricanes. He can make all of the plays on the floor and grew as a distributor and shooter this season. Tezeno is already a diamond in the eyes of low major DI schools. If he improves his game during this summer, mid-major and Power 5 schools could come calling.
Javon Ruffin Javon Ruffin 6'5" | CG Phhoenix Prep | 2021 State #239 Nation AZ / 6’4″ / Isidore Newman – Ruffin is the best combo guard that the junior class has to offer. He can score in multiple ways and at all three levels. His basketball IQ is off th charts as well. There really are not too many better with the ball in their hands than him. He should be highly touted during this recruiting season and next (if he doesn’t sign early).
Carlos Stewart, Jr. / 6’2″ / Dunham – The 2A most outstanding player had a terrific season. He was the best offensive and defensive player on his team leading them in a myriad of categories. Stewart is the model “two-way” player and will be on the short list for player of the year next year. (pictured above)
Kashie Natt Kashie Natt 6'2" | SG Rayville | 2021 State LA / 6’2″ / Rayville – Rayville was less than a minute away from being three time champions and Natt was the major force. He had a double double in the state semis and double digit rebounds in the championship game. Natt is one of the most athletic wings in the Boot and does multiple things for Rayville. His value can not be overlooked.
Carter Domingue Carter Domingue 6'3" | PG St. Thomas More | 2021 State LA / 6’3″ / St. Thomas More – Domingue was the primary catalyst in the Cougars repeating as state champions. He is the top assist guy on his team and one of the top shooters in the state. Domingue is one of those players that can be placed on any team and he is going to make a difference. One of the best winners in the state.
Delatrion Moton Delatrion Moton 6'4" | CG Woodlawn-Shreve | 2021 State LA / 6’4″ / Woodlawn-Shreveport – Moton started off the year slowly coming from the football field. He even spent some time coming off the bench. However, when the season got going, Moton played some of his best ball. At the end of the season, he was the closer for the Knights. Moton is a basketball player and can play the game with the best of them.
2nd Team
Will Allen Will Allen 6'7" | PF Bonnabel | 2021 State LA / 6’8″ / Bonnabel – Allen is probably the best big man in the 2021 class. His ability to score in the paint and fifteen feet in is what separates him from others. With some solid play in the shortened AAU summer, he might be ready for a breakout senior campaign.
Jaden Tyler Jaden Tyler 6'0" | CG Assumption | 2021 State LA / 6’1″ / Assumption – Tyler is one of the best scoring lead guards in the state. He can take anyone off the dribble, score effortlessly in transition, and shoot the three. A deeper playoff run would have had him in contention for MOP in 4A. He is that good.
Keon Coleman Keon Coleman 6'4" | SG Opelousas Catholic | 2021 State LA / 6’4″ / Opelousas Catholic – This four star wide receiver is a heck of a basketball player as well. His skill set allows him to score at all three levels with great proficiency. He is definitely one of the better talents in the Boot having high to mid-major offers in both football and basketball.
Daniel Ortiz Daniel Ortiz 6'1" | CG Calvary Baptist | 2021 State LA / 6’0″ / Southwood – The two time All state honorable mention is one of the best scorers in the state. His ability to handle and shoot is very hard to guard. Defenses showed him various defenses and he still managed to be productive. A true testament to his basketball ability.
Jaden Shelvin Jaden Shelvin 6'2" | CG St. Thomas More | 2021 State LA / 6’2″ / St. Thomas More – Shelvin has been one of the primary keys in the last two Cougar championships. His mutifacted play makes him one of the more talented guards/wings on the 4A level and allowed him to be named All state for a second time. Shelvin makes others better and that is why he is on this list.
Brandon Harton Brandon Harton 6'4" | SF Jehovah-Jireh | 2021 State LA , Jr. / 6’4″ / Jehovah-Jireh – Harton is a hardworking player who is flexible on the floor. The Warriors won many games because of the variety in his floor game. His rebounding and interior scoring make him elite in class C. In all seriousness, if he was in any other classification, he would be All state there too.
3rd Team
Brian Thomas / 6’4″ / Walker – Thomas was part of the Walker one-two punch that got them to Marsh Madness for a third straight year. He is the ultimate energy player. Thomas uses his sheer athleticism usually to outhustle the players he plays against. The fact that he can defend five positions, rebound, and score better than a lot of players helps also.
Deziel Perkins / 6’1″ / Madison Prep – Perkins was probably one of the most underrated combo guards to play this season. He handles the point sparingly for the Chargers but is best known for his accurate lefty jumper. When he gets hot, he is hard to cool off. However, if Perkins can improve his ability to play point, he may have a future as one on the next level.
Deshawn Jackson Deshawn Jackson 6'3" | CG Pickering | 2021 State LA / 6’2″ / Pickering – Jackson is one of the most explosive guards or wings we have in Louisiana. He can either finish above the rim or he can put up big numbers scoring. Playing in Pickering he is somewhat of a secret. If he plays on one of the circuits this summer, his name may blow up with smaller colleges and universities.
Claudell Harris Claudell Harris 6'3" | CG Hahnville | 2021 State LA / 6’2″ / Hahnville – As far as combo guards are concerned, Harris is one of the more gifted ones the Boot has. He is a three level scorer who shoots the ball very well from deep. Hahnville has a very good chance of returning to Marsh Madness next season with Harris as one of the primary cogs.
Jordan Boston Jordan Boston 6'1" | CG Sophie B. Wright | 2021 State LA / 6’1″ / Sophie B. Wright – Boston is one of the better two way players in the junior class. While he is a good shooter, he can change the game with his defense. Boston has quick hands and a knack for getting into passing lanes. His play helped the Warriors defend at a high level during the season.
Devonte Austin Devonte Austin 6'0" | CG Wossman | 2021 State LA / 6’0″ / Wossman – Austin is an explosive guard who saw and uptick in his scoring this season. When he drives to the basket, good things usually happen for his team. He is also a dynamo in transition and can finish over and through contact. When Austin has it going, he is hard to stop.
