After going over the numbers and reviewing film from the last year, I found several under the radar players, poised to become breakout stars.
Elijah Burney Elijah Burney 6'1" | PG Centennial | 2023 State NV 5’9 PG Centennial (#17) – I’m a big believer that winning translates. While I understand that it was only freshmen basketball, Burney showed a willingness to take and make big shots. As he grows and develops physically, his mental toughness should remain, making him an extremely intriguing PG prospect down the road.
Joshua Valencia 6’3 PF Green Valley Christian – On my must-see list. Valencia put together one of the most productive freshmen seasons in the state. While he is playing 1A ball, a young player with his size and strength is definitely worth a long look. When you add in that he averaged a double double last year, there’s no reason he should fly under the radar.
Karson Roberts 5’10 PG Bonanza – Despite going 11-17 last season, I thought Bonanza had a successful year. First-year coach Kevin Soares overcame injury and eligibility issues to put together a competitive team. A lot of that was due to the play of Roberts. The freshmen PG showed the ability to knock down outside shots on his way to averaging almost 7 points per game.
Nakalaya Fabello 5’10 PG Valley – It’s no secret what Fabello does. The floor spacing PG is a 3 point marksmen, and shooting translates to any level. He knocked down over 43% of his 3’s last season, helping him average 12 points per game as a freshman.
Logan Howren Logan Howren 6'4" | SG Bishop Manogue | 2023 State NV 6’4 SG Bishop Manogue (#12) – Howren had a monster season for the Northern power. He provided perimeter defense and scoring. His size, versatility, and athleticism make him a potential hidden gem. He averaged over 9 points per game in his debut season.
