Curtis Jones Curtis Jones 6'3" | SG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2020 State MN of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’3 Guard 2020). Jones is an elite shooter and that is known. A full scholarship shooter. What type of shots? I will give you three: the one hand runner attacking the lane, the catch and drain from behind the arc at 40 plus percent, and the late game clutch shots in whatever type you want to talk about. And Curtis forces nothing, everything is within the framework of the team.
Jordan Jones Jordan Jones 5'10" | PG Columbia Heights | 2020 State MN of Columbia Heights (5’10 PG 2020). Jordan was called a high school version of Ja Morant this weekend! Morant is 6-foot-3 and as explosive as any player in America but Jones is Minnesota version at 5-foot-10 playing both guard spots. His quickness to split the defense led to common attacks that high school basketball can’t contain and his softness of touching in scores (finishing at a high percentage) on the move is rare. He has range as a shooter and again, the way Jordan splits the defense is something you just don’t see in a lot of guards. If you want a ball handler that score put points on the board as well, this is your man.
Daydor Phillips Daydor Phillips 6'2" | SF Spring Lake Park | 2020 State MN of Spring Lake Park (6’2 SF 2020). The way Phillips competes is the dream of all high school coaches and if you are a college coach who wants a guy that will work hard, this is your guy. What do I mean? Phillips can defend bigger players because he is strong and one of the hardest working defenders around. Phillips does two things as well as anybody: contest shots and make the extra pass.
Nathan Willet Nathan Willet 6'4" | SF East Grand Forks | 2020 State MN of East Grand Forks (6’6 Forward 2020). Willet led EGF in scoring this year and why is that? Not just because of his physical gifts and the way the team plays as a unit, but also his advancements as an intelligent player. Nathan’s ability to walk a player down and v-cut to space to catch and make plays. Willet’s ability to change direction dribble and then got at space has greatly improved. Good size at the three and developing quick.
Lovell Williams Lovell Williams 6'2" | PG Maple Grove | 2020 State MN of Maple Grove (6’1 PG 2020). The word unselfish jumps off the page as I write it in connection with Lovell Williams Lovell Williams 6'2" | PG Maple Grove | 2020 State MN , a PG that led his team to 23 wins and a section title. The way Lovell cuts to the rim and the way he sets up the open space for others with his one dribble allowing his teammates to move quality space is top notch. Williams values the patience of a possession and then makes the play to win the possession. Love the directness of his pass and he’s a solid three-point shooter. I can see him as a scholarship point guard.
