Max BarnesMax Barnes of Stewartville (6’3 Forward). We haven’t seen much about Barnes yet but we were able to see that he’s a fairly high level shooter and a quality rebounder. Barnes played JV this year for the Tigers.
Taison Chatman Taison Chatman 6'4" | PG Totino Grace | 2023 State #35 Nation MN of Totino-Grace (6’3 SG). I continue to be amazed and not just the numbers that Taison produces against top players, it’s how he goes about it. Chatman saw his man anticipating the screen and he knocked down the jumper using the clean look at the rim. Then you have his sudden stop into the behind the back dribble into a jumper while the defender scrambled to get his feet under him. Add in the fakes both with the ball and the jab step and you have a young player with a PHD in space creation. Love his vision on the attack too.
Luke Collins Luke Collins 5'11" | PG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2023 MN of Benilde-St. Margaret’s (6’1 SG). Collins is the one freshman that played with BSM all year at the JV level, was on the floor for some varsity games, and practiced with varsity all year. Collins was only on the floor a bit but we saw a corner jumper make and another three that was made cleanly while the officials blew a foul on the opponent. Clean looking jumper.
Tommy Humphries Tommy Humphries 6'5" | SF Totino-Grace | 2023 State #283 Nation MN of Totino-Grace (6’4 SF). I love how Tommy uses his length. He reminds me a lot of Jordan Polynice who played in Grand Forks and is now headed to Chicago State (only Tommy is far more advanced at his age). Humphries is good with a couple dribbles to create space and even if the defense is able to closeout to stop his advance the extension of Humphries into the touch is there.
[player_tooltip player_id="962199" first="CJ" last="O'Hara"]CJ O’Hara CJ O’Hara 6'4" | SF Park Center | 2023 State #285 Nation MN of Totino-Grace (6’4 SG). O’Hara is the strongest of the Eagle freshmen and the best example of that is his right hand dribble attack getting to the baseline and the finishing while controlling his man on the backside. We also see in transition or on the straight line attack when CJ won the angle with his strength followed by the athleticism. Add in the agility to complete at the rim and you have a player that looks a lot like what Johnny Woodard was like at a young age at Duluth East.
Patrick Bath of Totino-Grace (6’9 PF/C). We’ve said a lot about Totino-Grace and the 2023 class so right now is the perfect time to throw in that Patrick Bath has enrolled at Totino-Grace for the upcoming year. Bath played at Fargo Shanley last winter (North Dakota big school basketball) as a freshman averaging 10.5 points and 4.9 rebounds a game shooting 47 percent from the floor and 76 percent at the arc. Bath also led his team in blocks.
