Throughout the last week in the DMV there was a ton of news regarding players of all classes earning offers, committing, etc. In this week’s edition of the DMV Recruiting Notebook, I try my best to keep you up to date.
COMMITMENTS
Rahim Ali Rahim Ali 5'11" | PG Baltimore Poly | 2020 State MD | Poly ’20
Ali made it official with his commitment to Howard on Saturday evening. Ali chose Howard not long after they got on the 5-foot-11 point guard in recent weeks. With his recruitment slowing down a bit prior to his commitment, Ali will go in and have a great chance to start from day one. His experience at playing and winning big games on big stages should help establish a winning culture at one of the most prestigious HBCU’s in the country.
John ‘Mikey’ Square | St. John’s (DC) ’20
Square is headed to Farleigh Dickinson where he looks to be a steal of a prospect. The 6-foot-6 forward is willing to do the dirty work and the little things to help give his team an advantage. His versatility on both ends, willingness to be coached and his high motor should fair well for him having an impact as a part of the Knight’s rotation.
Tyrae Washington Tyrae Washington 6'7" | PF Takoma Academy | 2020 State #444 Nation MD | Takoma Academy ’20
Washington made his commitment last night to American International College (Mass.) after receiving an offer from the Yellow Jackets last Friday. One of the top under recruited prospects in the DMV, Washington is a 6-foot-7 wing/forward who will provide versatility, athleticism and skill at the next level.
Malcolm Alexander Malcolm Alexander 6'4" | SG Bullis | 2020 State MD | Bullis ’20
Alexander made his pledge to Washington Adventist, one of the top NAIA programs in the country. Alexander is a 6-foot-4 guard who can really shoot it from beyond the arc. With good size and athleticism for his position, he should become a valuable part of the rotation. Washington Adventist made headlines this season after defeating two Division I programs in Howard and Delaware State this past season.
John Godinez John Godinez 5'10" | PG Parkville | 2020 State MD | Parkville ’20
Godinez announced his commitment to Notre Dame College of Ohio on Tuesday. The electric, quick twitch point guard is the type of player who will make his presence felt with any opportunity he’s given. Playing in a tough, physical Mountain East Conference will take time to adjust to, but Godinez’s play making ability and his threat of scoring from all three levels should put him in a good position for respectable playing time as a freshman.
Ethan Anderson | Dulaney ’20
Anderson will head to Gettysburg next season after a tough senior season riddled by injury. The 6-foot-3 shooter will look to provide further floor spacing to the Bullets’ roster.
Montell Cooper Montell Cooper 6'1" | CG Good Counsel | 2020 State MD | Good Counsel ’20
Cooper will suit up for Marymount next season and bring toughness and grit to the guard position. The 6-foot-1 lefty is a pesky defender both on the ball and in the passing lane. He’s best when going downhill attacking the rim and finishing through contact.
Khalil Dukes Khalil Dukes 6'2" | SG Parkville | 2020 State MD | Parkville ’20
Yesterday, Dukes made his commitment to Central Penn. Dukes was an important piece to a 22-3 Parkville squad with his role. The 6-foot-2 guard defended the other team’s best perimeter player on a consistent basis. That will be his calling card at the next level, but Dukes also has explosiveness and athleticism to finish in transition.
OFFERS
Angelo Brizzi Angelo Brizzi 6'3" | PG Highland School | 2021 State #216 Nation VA | Highland School ’21
Brizzi’s high major stock continues to grow as Georgetown extended an offer this past week. The 6-foot-4 marksman should see more newcomers in the coming weeks as more schools start investing more into his film and skill set.
Terrence Butler Terrence Butler 6'7" | PF Bishop McNamara | 2021 State MD Jr. | Bishop McNamara ’21
Butler picked up an offer from Towson on Tuesday after a solid junior season. Butler is an intriguing prospect at 6-foot-7, left-handed and versatile at the forward position. A lot of the attention is geared towards his frontcourt mate Favour Aire Favour Aire 6'10" | C Bishop McNamara | 2022 State #86 Nation MD (2022), but Butler can produce in a variety of ways.
Darrius Tilghman Darrius Tilghman 6'3" | PG Parkville | 2021 State MD | Parkville ’21
Tilghman received an offer from Gannon University yesterday. Gannon’s staff has ties to the Baltimore area and quickly made an impact on recruiting the DMV. Tilghman battled a lingering knee injury but still experienced a bounce back season as a junior. The 6-foot-4 southpaw has a good feel for the game and can finish creatively around the rim.
Tyson Commander Tyson Commander 6'4" | SG The John Carroll School | 2022 State #203 Nation MD | John Carroll ’22
Commander received an offer from DePaul, as the Blue Devils extended offers out to multiple underclassmen in the DMV last weekend. DePaul joins the likes of Xavier, Towson, Howard, Bryant and Mount St. Mary’s as the teams getting involved early in the sharpshooter’s sweepstakes.
Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD | St. Johns (DC) ’23
Hansberry received an offer from DePaul as well following his impressive freshman campaign in the WCAC. Hansberry is a 6-foot-7 forward that has an old school big’s game with his back to the basket, can grab rebounds by the bushel and run the floor extremely well. Hansberry also holds offers from Rhode Island and Virginia Tech.
Kwame Evans Kwame Evans 6'9" | SF Montverde | 2023 State #20 Nation FL | ’23 Poly
Evans had a big week receiving offers from DePaul and St. John’s. The 6-foot-9 wing’s recruitment is steady as many programs are intrigued with Evans’ high potential and high ceiling.
