College Commitment: Trey Galbraith (2020 South Salem HS)
All Trey Galbraith Trey Galbraith 5'9" | PG South Salem | 2020 State OR wanted was a chance. The scrappy 5-foot-9, 155-pound senior successfully took over the reigns at point guard for South Salem this season and after leading the Saxons to the state tournament, was hopeful a big performance there would help him earn the right college looks. While the situation changed, Galbraith has found a new path and on Saturday he committed to Lane which he feels will help him achieve his long term goals.
“They have showed a lot of love for a while now and I trust the coaching staffs and our talks about what the future could hold for myself and the team is going to be very talented this year,” Galbraith said. “I feel like with everything that is happening this is the best fit right now to get me to where I ultimately want to be. The coaches are very dedicated to their craft and winning. I’m a flat out winner so that always helps the situation when both sides want to win first.”
Galbraith had garnered some interest from numerous schools in the NWAC and some of the NAIA programs in-state. He described his hopes for his time with the Titans. “I really want to end up at the D2 level or possibly High NAIA if it was the right fit,” Galbraith said. “The coaches and staff feel with more exposure and putting myself in their system my name will get put out there more and will be competing with and against talented players daily to prepare myself for that next level.”
“With the tournament being cancelled and not having AAU I feel like I’ve lost my chance on some scholarships,” Galbraith continued. “I truly feel like I was right on that cusp for schools but this will be a good stepping stone to prove I’m ready and continue to work on my craft.”
This past season at South Salem, Galbraith averaged 11.2 points and 5.6 assists (ranking in the top five in 6a) while helping the Saxons run off an undefeated record Mountain Valley Conference and a berth into the state tournament before it was cancelled. With his commitment in the bag, Galbraith is now fully focused on improving himself for the college level – both for next year and beyond.
“I’ve definitely been hitting the weight room because I need to get faster and stronger to keep up with bigger guys,” Galbraith said. “Some things I want to focus on are being more of a pest on defense, stronger with the ball, and the ability to make tougher shots through contact because nothing comes easy at the college level.”
Galbraith currently ranks as the #34 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
