College Commitment: Syon Blackmon (2020 Eastside Catholic)
It’s done – Syon Blackmon Syon Blackmon 6'2" | SG Eastside Catholic | 2020 State WA is staying at home. The all-around 6-foot-1, 175-pound combo guard at Eastside Catholic had been looking for the best spot at the college level, a school that would offer him the best of both worlds both academically and athletically. Options emerged but when Seattle Pacific stepped forward it was a game-changer – and one that Blackmon accepted this past week when he signed a letter-of-intent to be a Falcon.
“I decided on Seattle Pacific because it’s close to home – my family is really important to me and being able to see them front row at games means the world to me,” Blackmon said. ” feel like I connected with the coaching staff, our goals and interest align and the basketball team has been moving in the right direction. But my decision was more than basketball, at Seattle Pacific I can get a private school education and a degree that carries some weight.”
Clearly the fit both on and off the basketball floor was just right for Blackmon. From a basketball perspective, the versatile backcourt performer described what he likes about the program – and what his goals are joining it next season.
“For two years in a row, Seattle Pacific had the freshman of the year on their team,” Blackmon said. “My goal is to make that three years. The team is young and really talented. Watching them play I could envision myself on the court. The pace, speed and flow they played with Is the type of system I work best in. I’m really excited to get to work.”
An athletic combo guard who can knock down open shots, finish well around the hoop, and create for others, Blackmon has already started to put in the time to prepare for next season even while he’s been cooped up at home.
“One of the benefits of this quarantine is that I can spend time working on my body,” Blackmon said. “I’m definitely going to get bigger stronger faster. Once gyms start opening up again I’ll definitely be in there working on moves for creating space, step backs and all that good stuff.”
Blackmon ranks as the #27 player on the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2020 rankings.
