Class of 2023: Stock Risers, Part 2
This is the second part of breaking down stock risers in the Class of 2023. These are more players that will be must watch prospects that can take the next step as sophomores.
Richard Machado Richard Machado 6'1" | CG Saddle River Day | 2023 State NJ | Saddle Day River
Saddle Day River has their next great scorer in Machado. He knocked down 40 three’s in his first season in high school and that number will continue to grow. Machado has a chance to be an elite scorer. He went into double-figures 16 times and eclipsed 20 points twice. Machado will be a huge name to watch next season.
Tristen Guillouette | Westampton Tech
Guillouette started to come on towards the end of his freshman year. The 6’7 freshman was a major contributor in the postseason. Westampton Tech has their next big man waiting to take over the reigns. Guillouette has good mechanics down low and has a lot of room to improve. He is a player that will improve noticeably over the next three years of his high school career.
Lorenzo Perez Lorenzo Perez 5'10" | PG Perth Amboy | 2023 State NJ | Perth Amboy
Perez adjusted to high school ball quickly scoring 18 points in his first career game. Perez hit 26 three’s this season and got to the rim at will. Perez made it a habit of getting to the free throw line and scoring easy points. He was a two-way player. Perez has quick hands which helps him get in the passing lane on the defensive end. Perez is a strong point guard that Perth Amboy sure likes to have running their offense.
Noah Payne Noah Payne 6'1" | PG Peddie | 2024 State NJ | Eastern
Payne is an intriguing player to watch. Eastern is a strong program and usually has good guard play. Noah Klinewski Noah Klinewski 6'2" | PG Eastern | 2020 State NJ will be graduating this year. Payne had the chance to learn under Klinewski who served as the leader of the team and one of the top scorers in the conference. Harris was a contributor this season for Eastern and his role will immediately grow as a sophomore.
Devon Theophile Devon Theophile 6'5" | PF St. Joseph Academy | 2023 State NJ | St. Joe’s (Hamm.)
St. Joe’s (Hamm.) is loaded with talented underclassmen. Theophile is just another name on that list. He stands at 6’6 and is an impact forward down low. As a freshman, Theophile emerged as a strong rebounder on both ends. He has a soft touch around the rim and can finish strong with contact.
Devon Johnson Devon Johnson SG Overbrook | 2023 State NJ | Overbrook
Johnson was a consistent player off the bench for Overbrook this season. He will eventually turn into a starting player and be a main option on the team. He is that kind of player. Johnson showed his ability to score at all three levels and that is something that is valuable for a team. Consistency and versatility is something that Johnson brings to the table.
