DJ Wagner, Mackenzie Mgbako Mackenzie Mgbako 6'8" | SF Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #5 Nation NJ , and Simeon Wilcher Simeon Wilcher 6'4" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #17 Nation NJ grabbed headlines during their first season but there is plenty of talent around the state to keep an eye on. Here are some stock risers to keep an eye on in 2020-2021.
Chris Venturoso Chris Venturoso 6'3" | SG Lacey | 2023 State NJ | Point Beach
Venturoso has already arrived and has Point Beach excited for the future. The freshman averaged 13.5 points per game in his first season. Venturoso did not do much work from beyond the arc but that part of his game will grow. At 6;2, Venturoso proved to be a force in the lane who could finish among larger defenders. He scored 20 or more points five times with a career-high 27 against Marlboro.
Elijah Gertrude Elijah Gertrude 6'4" | SG Hudson Catholic | 2023 State #145 Nation NJ | Hudson Catholic
Gertrude is a player that has flown under-the-radar but can turn into a big time prospect soon. He is a 6’0 point guard on a guard heavy team in Hudson Catholic. He has a chance to learn under some top players and great coaches. Gertrude is a quick player with the ball and can run the floor well.
Elijon Nix Elijon Nix 6'0" | PG Arts | 2023 State NJ | University
University is a balanced team with talent in all four grades. Nix will lead the Class of 2023. He is not a household name at the moment but his value will rise immediately as a sophomore. Nix will be given an increase in role because of his undeniable ability on the perimeter.
Quatrell Wilson Quatrell Wilson 6'5" | SF Newark East Side | 2023 State NJ | Newark East Side
Wilson began coming on at the end of the season. Newark East Side has been a powerhouse over the course of five years and that could continue with Wilson. He has good size at the guard position and the quickness to go with it.
Bryce Butler Bryce Butler 6'0" | PG Life Center Academy | 2023 State NJ | Life Center Academy
Butler was a consistent contributor for Life Center Academy over the course of his first season. He knocked down 30 three’s and got to the free throw line with regularity. At 5’7, Butler has some room to grow but he possesses the skills and agility that are good enough to succeed. He is quick with the ball and is active without it.
Matt Kinzler | St. Peter’s Prep
Kinzler will continue the streak of talented guards at St. Peter’s Prep. He is 6’4 and is a presence out on the perimeter. Given his size, he can play all five positions. Kinzler is talented enough to bring the ball up but also aggressive enough to battle down low for rebounds.
