We will look at some of the most underrated talents in the Class of 2023.
Michael Bradley Michael Bradley 6'1" | PG Mater Academy | 2023 State FL is a true sharpshooter for Mater Academy. The 5’7″ guard may appear on the smaller side, but don’t be fooled, he can score in bunches, averaging 9.0 PPG as a freshman, a year after mixing in as an 8th grader. Bradley had a 21-point performance against Evangelical Christian at the City of Palms Classic in December. He stood out to me for a few reasons. His outside touch is fluid, quick and he’s a speedy leader who loves to work the ball around. If Bradley adds height and some muscle, he will be well on his way.
Andruw Rondon-Delacruz Andruw Rondon-Delacruz 6'5" | PF Mater Lakes | 2022 State FL can be really good in due time (pictured all the way to the left in the story photo). The 6’6″ inside presence is a brute down low and someone who has a nice mid-range jumper, good footwork and plenty of upper body strength. Averaging 5.8 PPG and 5.0 RPG. he’s part of a talented and youthful Mater Lakes unit. Rondon-Delacruz had a 16 point, 14 rebound performance against Inlet Grove in late December. He is a big who certainly has a chance.
Tristan Watson comes from the very small town of Jay, just miles south of Alabama and he’s been a major piece at Jay High these past two seasons. Yes, the 6’4″ forward averaged 14.2 PPG as an 8th grader and as a freshman this past season, he averaged 16.5 PPG with eight games over 20 points and just five games under double digits. Watson had a career-best 37 points and 14 boards in a win over Pace in February. Look for him to continue to carve out a name for himself in the panhandle.
Eddrin Bronson is going to be in for a major role at Tampa Catholic this fall with six 2020 prospects graduating including a starting five that carried the way these past few seasons. The 6’1″ guard had some important minutes off the bench, controlling the tempo, distributing the rock and taking smart shots. Bronson averaged 5.8 PPG and showed a slew of confidence when he hit the floor. I think his upside is tremendous.
Hayden McCain Hayden McCain 6'0" | CG Northside Christian | 2023 FL nearly carried a young St. Pete squad to the Class 6A region final in a wild five overtime tilt at Fort Myers. The 5’10” freshman guard hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 105 apiece with two minutes left. However, the Green Devils couldn’t get the road playoff win. McCain proved he is a true varsity player and his mindset is true to that. Hitting 28-of-60 3’s on the season, his minutes grew as the season went on and his outside shot is dangerous. Look for him to develop further this fall.
Keon Keeley Keon Keeley 6'7" | PF Berkeley Prep | 2023 FL has already impressed enough on the football field as a defensive end/tight end at Berkeley Prep, earning a UCF offer in February. On the basketball court, he is earning his stripes. The 6’6″ forward is lengthy as can be and is clearly not done growing or filling out. He had a role off the bench for Berkeley Prep this past season, serving as a shot blocker and core rebounder. With more strength, he will be awfully dangerous alongside 2022 6’7″ athlete CJ Hawkins CJ Hawkins 6'7" | SF Berkeley Prep | 2022 State FL . Keeley is an intriguing athlete.
Stephen Olowoniyi Stephen Olowoniyi 6'7" | PF Webb Bell Buckle | 2023 State TN is a raw but developing big who is going to be a serious issue for defenses here soon. Around 6’6″-6’7″, the Victory Rock Prep big man is part of the mold there in Sarasota. In the SIAA, as long as he adds muscle to his frame and continues to be aggressive, he will make plenty of noise.
