2023 Rankings: The Top 10 Debut
We will look at the top crafty playmakers in the Class of 2023 with these stories to follow: Rising Prospects, Talented Bigs, 3-Point Specialists and Underrated Talents.
Jasai Miles Jasai Miles 6'5" | CG Miami Country Day | 2023 State #241 Nation FL played heavy minutes as an eighth grader for Miami Country Day and even had a 20-point game while averaging 8.8 PPG for that season. The 6’5″ guard shined as a freshman averaging 16.2 PPG and 9.2 RPG, netting double digits in all but two games. He had a 27-point outing in the season opener against Edison and a career-best 31 points against SLAM Miami just a few weeks later. A highly athletic and versatile guard, his length is a problem for teams as a driver, otuside shooter and shot blocker defensively. The right handed Miles can dribble with both hands with ease and that is a special thing. His upside is endless.
Tyler Williams Tyler Williams 6'4" | CG Lakeland | 2023 FL doubles as a quarterback for Winter Haven football and a point guard for the basketball team. The 6’3″ athlete is quick from side to side, long and a very talented young player. He showed promise as a shooter for Winter Haven from outside and as an attacker. He was allowed to handle the rock often and still has kinks to work through, but he’s scrappy defensively, tough on offense and shifty enough to get past almost anybody. Williams has some serious untapped potential.
Jayven Cofer Jayven Cofer 6'2" | CG San Marcos | 2023 State TX arrived from Texas alongside his brother Jimel Cofer Jimel Cofer 6'4" | CG Universal Academy | 2021 State TX . Jayven is a 6’2″ freshman guard who played a key role for Schoolhouse Prep in its state semifinal run. He averaged 7.3 PPG and had some nice performances earlier which included three straight 13 point games and then a 16-point game later in the season against Calvary Christian. Cofer (see picture) is already developed in his upper body and is someone who can push the tempo. He plays with others and can attack the rim often.
Anthony Robinson Anthony Robinson 6'3" | PG Florida State University Hig | 2023 State #133 Nation FL is a right handed shooter and finisher, but he dribbles very well with both hands. The 5’10” guard already has offers from Stetson and Alabama State and is a prime candidate to fly up these rankings very soon. He is an impressive outside shooter, who scoots back to hit 3’s in defenders faces or when open. He can speed down the floor for a mid-range, high IQ pass or lay-in. Robinson pops on tape and as he gets taller and fills out his body, his stock will flourish.
PJ Paulk PJ Paulk 6'3" | CG Northwestern | 2023 State FL is a 6’2″ athlete who is a standout wide receiver for Miami Northwestern football and a true tough nosed point man for the basketball team. He can hurt you with his pure strength and will to get by you and score at the rim. Paulk controls the floor well and is a leader by example. He keeps everything calm around him and makes everyone better. Whatever sport he chooses, the sky is the limit for Paulk with his pure ability to make plays.
Jalen Debose Jalen Debose 6'1" | CG Windermere | 2023 State FL is a true playmaker whether he has the ball in his hands or not. The 6′ guard averaged 10.6 PPG and proved his worth from deep, where he thrives shooting from the corners. A pesky defender, Debose seems to always find openings in defenses and he can get to the rim with his quick feet and lay it in and finish. In nine of his first 11 games as a freshman, he reached double digits which included a 22-point game against Lake Minneola where he shot 9-of-13 from the field. Debose is a major athlete in the works.
