Prep Hoops has released its latest Colorado class of 2022 rankings update based on the 2019-20 season. The 2022 class is an interesting one as we had a significant shakeup in the Top-5 as well as plenty of movement throughout the rest of the rankings while adding prospects as well. Here, we focus on some of the classes’ top floor generals.
Xavier Harris Xavier Harris 6'1" | PG Hillcrest Prep | 2023 CO – Horizon
arris is one of the classes’ top point guards and one of the best passers as well as he is a quick and robust guard that controls the pace as well as keeps everyone on his team happy. With Horizon, he has to take on more of a scoring role but remain a playmaker that gets teammates involved and attack from the lead guard spot. Harris put up 10.3 points a game and 2.3 assists a game to go along with it. Harris also finishes as well as anyone in the class as he has impressive body control and a great overall feel for the game. This season I feel as if Harris will come into his own as he finds the balance of when to score and when to facilitate, and the rest of the game will follow. Harris is the No. 12 player in the class, and while he has plenty to work on, he is ahead of the curve and has room to rise.
Vincent May Vincent May 6'4" | SF Colorado Prep | 2022 CO Jr. – George Washington
May is a player that just might be one of the most skilled guards in the class with a polished game. He can shoot, has excellent ball-handling skills, finishes at the rim, and is explosive. While he has all of those great attributes, a lot of it was not able to be seen as he did not play in many games this year. May only played in 14 games this season. He showed signs of promise when he did play, such as his 18 point explosion against Kennedy as well as a six steal, six assist game against Golden. The Patriots played well when he played well, and he gives them a bigger and explosive guard that is competitive. May Jr. drops from our last update and will have plenty of work to do where he gets into a flow as he is the No. 22.
Jaiden Flowers Jaiden Flowers 5'10" | CG Palmer | 2022 State CO – Palmer
Flowers is a player that we had our eyes on at the beginning of the season when Palmer had maybe the upset of the year in a 94-91 win against Mead. That was Mead’s last and only loss of the season, and one of the top standouts in the game was 5’10 true point guard Jaiden Flowers Jaiden Flowers 5'10" | CG Palmer | 2022 State CO who showed off his poise, ability to win in a high scoring back and forth affair and play well against top competition. Flowers had 16 points in that game as he hit four 3-pointers in the game as well as getting out in transition. Throughout the season, Flowers remained a large part of the Terrors offense as he ran the show and set teammates up. He finished with seven points and 2.3 assists a game. He is a player to take a more in-depth look at and is one that will only get more confident with experience. He is the No. 26 player right now and one of the top guards.
Bennett Mather Bennett Mather 5'10" | CG ThunderRidge | 2022 CO – ThunderRidge
Mather is one of the most creative guards in the state and is one that takes pride in getting others involved. Mather is a gym rat that can break a defender down off of the dribble and has excellent court awareness. He is an excellent ball-handler that makes reliable decisions with the ball, and although he had a down year, he was able to showcase that he could still impact the game in a limited role. What it appeared like this season was that Mather was a good guard with a vision but was too afraid to make a mistake. He was a bit timid and did not do the playmaking that he is capable of. Next season, he will have to open things up and take chances as he can put teammates in good spots to score as well as get himself going. Right now, he is the No. 28 player in the class and he cannot have another year like the last, or he will drop… motivation.
Kijuan Thompson Kijuan Thompson 5'9" | PG George Washington | 2022 State CO – George Washington
Thompson was a player that jumped onto the scene early on before leveling down. He is a hard-nosed and tenacious defender that is in your face for the entirety of the game. He moves his feet on that end of the floor; he forces defenders where he wants them to go and uses his body. On offense, he is able to disrupt the defense with his speed and blows by defenders for finishes at the rim. He is good in a fast-paced setting, and in a zone, he moves the defense around. Thompson slowed down as the season progressed and will have to remain aggressive moving forward, but his competitiveness makes up for plenty as he is a player that gives his all every time down and can pass the ball and get others involved.
