The 2022 class is filled with players who could have spring boarded their success from the summer into the 2020-21 season. Here are the top 2022 prospects who could have exploded onto the AAU circuit.
Charles Anyichie Charles Anyichie 6'7" | PF Ranney School | 2022 State NJ , 6’7 PF Ranney School
Teammates Elijah Perkins Elijah Perkins 6'4" | CG Camden | 2022 State NJ and Ryan Zan were also options here, but Anyichie has a chance to shoot up boards with a strong AAU season. He is an explosive athlete who loves to finish above the rim. Anyichie has a nice touch around the basket and is developing his shooting range. He is a good help defender and is one of the top shot-blockers in the Shore Conference. Anyichie’s combination of length, athleticism and talent makes him one of the more intriguing forward prospects in the 2022 class and a strong AAU season could push him up the rankings.
DJ Thomson DJ Thomson 6'3" | PG Keyport | 2022 State NJ , 5’10 PG Keyport
Anyichie is not the only B Central player capable of having a big AAU season as Keyport’s top player is a big-time scorer. The 5’10 guard can score from all three levels and is at his best attacking the basket. Thomson plays with composure on the ball and rarely gets speeded up. He is an underrated defender who knows how to read passing lanes. Thomson has a chance to be the top scorer in the Shore Conference in 2020-21 and a strong AAU season could put him in that position.
Xavier Edwards Xavier Edwards 6'3" | SF Hudson Catholic | 2022 State NJ , 6’2 CG Marist
Marist had a successful final season as it won 22 games and made the Hudson County Tournament final for the second straight season. Edwards missed the season due to injury and would need the AAU season to get back into a rhythm. When healthy, he is a dynamic guard capable of finishing around the rim. Edwards is a tough on-ball defender and is not afraid to mix it up down low for rebounds. He has the ability to have a big junior season, but Edwards needs to play well on the AAU circuit to prepare himself for 2020-21.
Zy’ree Beverly Zy’ree Beverly 6'6" | PF Elizabeth | 2022 State NJ , 6’6 PF Elizabeth
The Minutemen were one of the top teams in New Jersey, but they need to replace first team All-State member Jordan Price Jordan Price 6'4" | SF Elizabeth | 2020 State NJ . Rising senior Gil Morla is an option, but Beverly provides Elizabeth with a bigger presence down low. The 6’6 power forward is tough to keep off the glass and works hard on every possession. Beverly has a nice touch around the basket and knows how to set good screens. His ability to be a team player on both ends of the floor makes Beverly an ideal candidate to have a big AAU season.
Lual Manyang Lual Manyang 6'10" | C Blair Academy | 2022 State #232 Nation NJ , 6’11 C Blair Academy
Manyang is a skilled big man who could have propelled himself up the rankings with a strong AAU season. The lengthy 6’11 big man runs the floor hard to give himself easy opportunities on offense. Manyang has a nice touch around the basket and is developing his offensive range. He plays with good footwork on both sides of the floor and is the top shot-blocker in the state due to his combination of timing and length. Manyang recently received an offer from NJIT and could receive many more with a solid showing in the AAU circuit.
