They can be effective in the post area, and can play out on the wings/perimeter. I would have been looking at them this spring and summer to see how they performed in the grassroots setting and against quality competition.
Nigel Burris 6’6, Archbishop Mitty. (San Jose CA)
Burris is a bouncy player who moves at a good pace on the floor. He’s strong and can score in the post when he’s down there, he’s good taking it to the basket with one dribble. He spends good parts of the game playing on the perimeter. He passes and moves well out there. He has good lift and shooting form. When he improves his mid-range jumper, and 3pt efficiency he’ll take his game up a notch. He’s an effective rebounder, he can push, and pass in transition. He can get out and guard on the wings and defend in the post. He has multiple DI offers.
Emmanuel Callas Emmanuel Callas 6'5" | SF Campolindo | 2021 State CA-N 6’5, Campolindo. (Moraga CA)
There aren’t many players in NorCal who have improved their perimeter play as much as Callas. Last year in the DII state championship game at 6’4, he did most of his damage in the post area. He’s transitioned his game into and effective inside/out player. He got considerable playing time on the perimeter this season. He averaged 13.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg. He showed good footwork reading and coming off screens, curls, and form on the catch and shoot. He became an effective driver for layups and pull ups into the paint from the wings. He’ll have to work on his perimeter defense. He’ll continue to rise.
Kiahn Nice Kiahn Nice 6'7" | SF Sequoia | 2021 State CA-N 6’7, Sequoia (Redwood City CA)
A slender and fluid player who brings a quality offensive package to the court. He’s one of those score it at 3 level players. He has the size and moves to finish in the post. He can hit the mid-range jumper, and he’ll knock down the 3 with some consistency. He’s very effective in transition, with his ability score on the drive, or from 3. Defenders will try to be physical to slow him down. I’ll keep an eye on how he responds to the physical play.
David Ajanaku David Ajanaku 6'7" | PF Woodside Priory | 2021 State CA-N -Makun 6’7, Woodside Priory. (Portola Valley CA)
A muscular physique, he has a college body right now. A versatile player who is aggressive. He averaged 12 ppg. His value on the court goes beyond pts. At 6’7 he handles the ball decent and see’s over smaller defenders. He’ll battle for rebounds. He’s got good lateral movement and will get after it on the defensive end. A glue guy who has room to improve on offense.
Grant Tull 6’6 Gridley, (Gridley CA)
Great competitor, he plays with controlled tenacity. If there were a category for diving, and winning loose balls, you’d see Tull’s name at the top. He actually plays more of the point forward position working from the top. He’s an effective ball handler bringing the ball up the court and getting the team into half court sets. He uses his body well protecting the ball in open court, and down on the block using both hands to score. He’ll get in there and bang for rebounds. Gridley plays in the lower division, nevertheless Tull produced 25 ppg, 7.7 rebs, 3.3 asts, 2 stls, and 1.6 blocks. Tull is one of those players who benefits from playing against a higher level competition on the grassroots circuit.
