Luke Yoder Luke Yoder 5'10" | CG Fossil Ridge | 2021 State CO – Fossil Ridge
Yoder is a player that we were extremely high on heading into the season as he had a pretty big freshman season. Although he cooled off a bit in his sophomore season, I can say that he is starting to come into his own and looks like a complete player. This year he did not have to score the ball as much with others around him taking on that role, and that is when he became more of a floor general for the Sabercats. Yoder made sure that the ball was popping and moving around to keep everyone involved while also finding his own. On the season, he averaged 9.6 points and three assists a game. With their core coming back and Yoder at the lead guard spot, Fossil Ridge seems to be in good hands. He is a deep sleeper that will inevitably rise after his junior season.
Sam Carlson Sam Carlson 6'4" | CG Monarch | 2021 State CO –Monarch
Carlson is a player that we saw against Fairview later in the season as he stood out, and we wanted to keep an eye on and finished off the year very strong. Carlson led Monarch this season in scoring at 12.8 points a game as the 6’3 guard showed that he could consistently score the basketball. He finishes with contact, shoots lights out from deep, and also is invested defensively as he comes up with big stops. Carlson is a player we will have to see a bit more of before he makes a jump, and we were making it a priority this summer, but with everything happening, we will see what he does to begin the season.
Cole Bowen Cole Bowen 6'1" | CG Rampart | 2021 State CO – Rampart
Bowen is a guy that you just enjoy watching as he plays the right way and also makes others around him better. He works extremely hard offensively as he has a good feel for the game. He is a consistent 3-level scorer that also rebounds well from the guard spot. This season Bowen was named to the Colorado Metro League 2nd Team after putting up 12.7 points, three rebounds, and three assists. As high as he is offensive, he is as locked in defensively, and that was on display all season long when he up put up over three steals a game as well. Bowen is a player that would have undoubtedly benefitted from a circle of playing in front of us.
Darrian Hammons Darrian Hammons 5'11" | PG George Washington | 2021 State CO – George Washington
Hammons is a player that plays with so much passion and anger. But the good thing is, once he directs those emotions to the right things, he will surely be able to use it as an advantage. This season was a down year for the George Washington guard that came into the season with a chip on his shoulder. He started well but started to overthink, and it caused simple mistakes and a lapse in the flow. He seldom played this season and showed the potential to his game at times, but now it is about coming into his own and getting back to the guard that was a tenacious and in your face defender that also ran his unit and controlled the tempo. Hammons is a player; he is, he just has to get back to himself. That means getting back to the basics and not stepping on his own toes. This will be a summer about getting better and redefining himself, and I am anxious to see what comes out of it.
AJ Guiao AJ Guiao 5'10" | PG Doherty | 2021 State CO – Doherty
Guiao is truly underrated in the sense of while he did not have explosive games where he took over and scored a ton of points, he did, however, prove to be one of the most consistent players in his conference. Guiao was the starting point guard for one of the most dangerous teams in the Colorado Springs Metro League, and every team that went up against him knew what they were up against; a leader. Guiao averaged eight points, four assists, and also went down and helped on the boards as well on a team that crashed every single shot. Guiao is a coaches dream at the guard spot. He takes care of the ball, runs the sets to perfection, and does not step out and over-do what is asked of him. He is a true floor general that gets teammates involved, hit teammates with pocket passes, and also would give you a bucket in the middle of it all. Guiao should rise and surely will by the next update. He’s one of the best post-50 players there are on our list.
