Prep Hoops has released its latest Colorado Class of 2021 rankings based on the 2019-20 season. This is one of our deepest classes in the state, so it took us a while to look at the full season and break it down. We had drastic movement and also added over 25 new players. Here, we focus on some of the classes’ top scoring guards that we have ranked.
Blakeley Stoughton Blakeley Stoughton 6'3" | SF Regis Jesuit | 2021 State CO – Regis
This smooth-lefty is a confident scorer that opens up the defense with timely shots but also gets to the rim and finishes. Stoughton was one of two players for the Raiders to score in double figures, and his 10.3 points a game came in handy as he played well in the playoffs as well. Stoughton had a season-high of 29 points in a 65-62 win over Monarch and showed that he could have those types of games from time to time. Stoughton is also a plus defender that wants to guard the opposing team’s best player. He is also very athletic and blows by players on the rip through with open court dunks. He rebounds well from the off-guard spot as he averaged 4.4 rebounds a game. Stoughton played the passing lanes well, knocked down some 3-pointers when the Raiders needed him most, and was a big reason that Regis was able to get a couple of upset wins in the playoff. The No. 40 player will have to show off his aggression and continue to go at players and look to score a bit more while being in the flow of the offense.
Eddie Speller Jr. Eddie Speller Jr. 6'5" | PF Lewis-Palmer | 2021 State CO – Lewis-Palmer
Speller Jr. popped on the list and was in a tough spot. He was on the defending champions in 4A and had to help lead a young bunch to defend the title. While Palmer surely took a drop this year, his development was beneficial for him moving forward, and he was one of the best forwards this season. The 6’5 paint beast knew his role and stuck with it. He was one of the most consistent scorers in the conference at 14.1 points a game and had 7.6 boards a game as he controlled the boards. Next season, he will have to build on all of those qualities while being the go-to option that demands the ball. He has the strength and footworkNow mix it with the willingness to be assertive and attack every time, and Lewis-Palmer is in good hands. Speller Jr. is the No. 35 ranked player in the class.
Adrian Price Adrian Price 6'5" | C Eaglecrest | 2021 State CO – Eaglecrest
Price is a player whose impact truly goes beyond just stats and he is making his rankings debut with a HUGE jump. Price was one of the better bigs in the Centennial League conference as he battled with some of the best bigs in the state and held his own in his junior season. Price put up He has an excellent blend of skill, size, and strength and uses it all as a plus defender with interior offense as well. He has an improving offensive game where he was able to back defenders down, crash the boards for easy finishes and showed off his athleticism from time to time with a few rim-rattling dunks. Price is good right now, but, I think in his senior season he will be even better. Price is a bit undersized at 6’5 but makes up for it with strength and execution. Price will return to the Centennial League as one of the better rebounders and shot blockers and for now goes in at a generous No.23 with a HUGE group of players wanting to surpass him.
Ryan Ure Ryan Ure 6'6" | SF Eaton | 2021 CO – Eaton
Eaton was the No.3 team in a very good 3A Patriot League. They finished off the season with a 19-5 record, and the biggest reason for their success was a 6’7 paint beast, Ryan Ure Ryan Ure 6'6" | SF Eaton | 2021 CO . Ure was a man amongst boys and was one of the best players in 3A last year as he was an All-State Honorable Mention after showcasing himself as a walking double-double. His numbers last year showed just how good he was and the scary part is he is getting better and improving. In Ure’s junior season, he put up 14.2 points and 12.7 rebounds a game while also having 14 double-doubles which was good for 4th in the entire state. Ure was the best rebounder in all of 3A and also had 2.6 blocks a game as well. He is a soaring big that is currently ranked at No.43, and that is solid for a small-town school player that’ll play at the next level.
Joah Armour Joah Armour 6'8" | PF Manitou | 2021 State CO – Manitou Springs
Joah Armour Joah Armour 6'8" | PF Manitou | 2021 State CO is making his rankings debut, and when looking at the type of season that he had, he is a player to truly take a deeper look at. The 6’6 forward had a sensational year for Manitou Springs as they finished off the season 19-5 and went undefeated in league play. Armour led the Mustangs in scoring as a sophomore at 14.0 points a game and also showed that they could go inside and show off his soft touch and excellent footwork in the post. Armour has an improving post-up game but gets his production inside while being a playmaking big that Manitou Springs ran through. He is the No. 47 players in the class and there are players behind him that are ready to make moves, so he will have to step up this season or slide.
