Unsigned seniors in the 2020 class are having a very hard time getting seen which is evident, but the 2021 class is losing out the most. The juniors soon to be seniors are heading into their most crucial summer of travel ball and then high school season following.
With that being said, here is a look at ’Part 1’ of some 2021 prospects names to know.
Chris Walker Chris Walker 6'6" | SG Wellington | 2021 State FL (Wellington)
There is a steady talent down brewing in South Florida. The 6’6″ guard/wing averaged 10.6 PPG as a junior and 10.1 PPG as a sophomore for a steady Wellington unit. He is a reliable shooter who is both long and quick. He missed nearly half of this past season due to injury but was still a proven commodity for the Wolverines. Walker earned an offer from Rider late last month. When fully healthy, he will be a top shooting threat in the area and in the state. More colleges should be looking at his film if they aren’t already.
MK Ashmore MK Ashmore 6'6" | SF North Broward Prep | 2021 State FL (North Broward Prep)
A true jumper, Ashmore is a 6’6″ wing who can get up and down the floor with ease. Averaging 12.1 PPG and 6.0 RPG, his best performance came early in the season when he recorded 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting against Palm Beach Gardens right after Christmas. Ashmore has drawn interest from the likes of Princeton, Wofford, Toledo and Miami (Ohio). On a talented Coconut Creek-North Broward Prep squad, the sky is the limit for his progress (season highlights).
Emilio Ramirez Emilio Ramirez 6'1" | CG LaSalle | 2021 State FL (LaSalle)
A true attacker, the 6’2″ guard averaged 25.0 PPG as a sophomore and close to it again during his junior campaign. He can get to the bucket with his length and speed. He can shoot the mid-range with ease and his outside jumper continues to improve. For LaSalle, Ramirez is a true leader among a young core and he gets plenty of work on the boards as well, using his energy throughout games. Colleges need to keep a close eye on him.
Sherwin Frederick (Treasure Coast)
This kid is blooming at the right time. The 6’6″ Frederick passes the eye test and is a true clean up artist, always getting inside for tip-backs, boards and dunks. A guard prior, he has some reliable ballhandling skills and his moves to the basket are impressive. Frederick needs to fill out his lengthy body but he is still not done growing which is a good thing. He averaged 13 PPG and 7.0 RPG as a junior. College programs will know who he is awfully soon (highlight tape).
Diego Platas-Ivan Diego Platas-Ivan 6'6" | PF Auburndale | 2021 State FL (George Jenkins)
Part of the George Jenkins varsity squad since his freshman year, 6’6″ forward Platas-Ivan has really been dependable the past two seasons (12.1 PPG as a sophomore and 12.9 PPG as a junior). He doesn’t overshoot, gets going on the boards (5.6 RPG) as he shot 58 percent from the field overall and 48 percent from 3-point land (21 of 48). A stretch four, Platas-Ivan is a locked-in prospect who continues to improve his game and prove his worth game in and game out.
Tarence Guinyard Tarence Guinyard 6'1" | CG Bay Shore Christian | 2021 State FL (Lennard)
Coming down from Jacksonville Atlantic Coast, the 6’1″ Guinyard is in true command of an offense. He has different speeds, he can flat out shoot from deep and he’s able to dish the ball out and drive to the rim. He averaged 13.7 PPG, 6.2 APG, 4.0 RPG and 2.7 SPG in his first season at Lennard. As a true team player point man, Guinyard is someone college coaches will love to have running the show (season highlights).
