No need to worry about that, because I keep discovering talent in the state of Tennessee.
The 2021 class rankings will be updated soon, and the players I’m about to list will be listed somewhere.
Here’s another list of sleepers in the 2021 class:
Bwerani Johnson Jr., Freedom Prep: The 6-foot-1 combo guard averaged 18.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 4.2 steals per game for the Eagles. Johnson is a natural scorer and should be one of the best players in Class A next season.
Henry Nickey, MUS: Nickey averaged 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals per game for the Owls in 2019. MUS had multiple guys who could score this past season. Nickey moves well without the basketball in his hands. He’s also dangerous when he’s at the point guard spot.
Austin Abernathy, Fayette Academy: Abernathy missed eight games in 2019 due to an ankle injury, but managed to average 10 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.1 block per game. Abernathy is an underrated scorer. He can shoot the 3 at a high clip.
Jordan Jenkins, Collierville: Jenkins averaged 10.8 points, 2.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game for the Dragons under first-year head coach Scottie Robinson. Jenkins attacks the lane with aggression and is a very unselfish teammate.
Calvin Jennings, Cordova: The 6-2 guard averaged 10 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Wolfpack. Jennings loves to attack. He does that very well. Jennings will need to improve on his free throw shooting and mid-range jump shot.
Damiel Briggs, Westwood: Briggs averaged 9.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game for the Longhorns. One of Briggs’ best performances of the 2019 season came in a 77-73 win over Hillcrest. He scored 11 points. He was one of four Westwood players to score in double figures.
Charlie Ivory, Westwood: Ivory averaged 7.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and two blocks per game for the Longhorns. With Terrion Whiting graduating, the 6-3 guard will see his touches increase, which will bring more scoring opportunities.
Madison Peaster, Arlington: Peaster was named MVP of the Region 7 District 14-AAA Tournament in 2019. He also took home MVP honors in the district. Peaster is very crafty with the basketball, but at times can be out of control, which is something he needs work on. His strength is attacking the basket. Peaster isn’t a bad free throw shooter, either.
Ben Floyd, Christian Brothers: Floyd’s minutes were limited on varsity as the Purple Wave’s rotation tighten up once the postseason came around, but Floyd showed promise on the junior varsity team. He led the team with 17 points per game. From talking to his coach, Brad Luckett, Floyd has made strides and will play a pivotal role on varsity next season.
Colin Scifres, Christian Brothers: Scifres is another kid who didn’t get to play many minutes on varsity. He nearly averaged a double-double on junior varsity. Look for Scifres to take his game up a notch once the 2020 season tips off.
