While some players have already chosen a school to go to, here are five seniors that boosted their stock in their final season and can help out a school at the next level.
Agustin Rivas – Liberty
Rivas is a player that just committed to play at Doane University next season, and seeing how he was able to affect games this year; it is no surprise that a school took an interest in the 6’3 wing. Rivas is a versatile wing that does a bit of everything. He got inside of the paint and finished, got out on the break and got involved, and also opened it up with an outside shot as well. Rivas can put the ball on the floor and get inside of the defense and finds the open man as well. Rivas played great off of the ball this year and fit in seamlessly with other capable scorers. What you’re going to get every time out with Rivas is a hustle player that is going to outwork the opposing team. He is going to crash the boards, dive for loose balls, and also apply himself defensively. This season he put up 14.0 points, and 5.0 rebounds a game and showed that he is a player that gets after it defensively. A stock boosting season.
Trevon Deden Trevon Deden 6'3" | CG Overland | 2020 State CO – Overland
Overland is a team that I was extremely high on heading into the season. They were balanced with a superstar and had all of the right pieces to build around him, which would’ve opened it up for everyone else. Three games into the season, the Trailblazers were without their star and looking for who they would go through – Deden stepped up and became that player. Deden was the team’s leading scorer this season as he put up 11.5 points a game. He’s a streaky shooter that, when hot, cannot be contained. Deden allowed his jump shot to open up the rest of his game. He had a game where he exploded for 33 points and a stretch where he was putting up double figures in seemingly every game. He is a player that knows how to play alongside others but was put into the spotlight and handled it well. He is a high academic guard that shows off that IQ on the court, and that helps him in various ways. Deden went into the season as the No.58 player in the class but is about ten spots higher at seasons end.
Rhys Pulling Rhys Pulling 6'1" | CG Mountain Vista | 2020 State CO – Mountain Vista
When you go down the list at some of the best role players for the past couple of seasons, you are not going to get far without saying the 6’1 wing from Mountain Vista. Pulling has been a glue guy that the Golden Eagles has relied on, and he has undoubtedly delivered. He is a player that a coach feels comfortable having on the floor as there are going to be minimal mistakes, and you know what you’re getting from him. Pulling is a player that is going to run the offense to perfection, defend whoever it is that he is asked to defend and do all of the small things that help win a basketball game. In Pulling’s’s senior year he put up 8.9 points and 4.1 rebounds a game. He is a player that is going to box out, make the extra pass, and also defend at a high level. But he also will score when needed. Pulling had a couple of rim shaking dunks that brought the Nest down and he is a player that Mountain Vista will surely miss. Rhys came into the season as the No.54 player in the class, but at season’s end made a push to finish higher. Solid career for him.
Cal Wing – Heritage
Heritage is a team that was undoubtedly better than their record says they were they just could not put it together consistently. One of the players that were consistent, however, was their Senior small forward Cal Wing, who was one of the better isolation bucket getters in the state. Wing is a player who shot the ball off of the dribble better than he did as a set shooter, he created for himself and had a set of go-to moves that freed himself up. He has a lethal step back that creates space, and he is confident in shooting it. What I liked from the 6’2 small forward is his ability to run the offense as the lead guard and also find gaps in the defense where he makes the opposing team pay. He finishes with either hand in traffic, has a soft touch around the basket, and is a high IQ player that understands spacing. He led Heritage in points at 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds a game and also dished out 2.2 assists to go along with it. Wing is a prospect that came into the season at No.62 in the class but made a push to certainly rise. He will make a difference on the floor as he will play at Ithaca next season.
Tyler Turner Tyler Turner 6'2" | CG Boulder | 2020 State CO – Boulder
Boulder was a team to watch this year as they played the right way and frustrated opposing teams with execution. Boulder went 20-5 on the season, won a tight game in the playoffs, and then lost 53-52 in a classic to Columbine. The Panthers were as balanced as a team as there was in the state without a particular star, but they did have players that starred in their role. Tyler Turner Tyler Turner 6'2" | CG Boulder | 2020 State CO was one of them. Turner put up 10.1 points a game and also grabbed 3.4 rebounds and had 2.6 assists as well. The 6’0 guard did not step out of his comfort zone and made it a point to attack the paint. Turner found his rhythm late in the season and showcased that he could impact games with his scoring. Turner was an honorable mention All-State player that has upside. Turner came in at No. 74 in the class, but with how he led his team to wins deserves to be a bit higher.
