Demetrius Calip (6’4″ Taft) Last season Taft had a logjam at multiple positions and Calip was consistently one of their top players. The Pangos All American guard is a long lefty who is a natural scorer. He can shoot off the dribble and create for himself. Demetrius has range on his jumper as exhibited with 8 made threes in a game against Veritas Prep, and several other games with at least 3 three’s made. Calip is also slithery when he gets to the rim as he finds ways to get the rim and put the ball in the hole. The versatile guard has basketball blood as his dad was a member of the ’89 Michigan Wolverines and also the Los Angeles Lakers.
Adrian McIntyre (6’2″ Saugus) One of the steady scorers in Southern California this last season, McIntyre somehow remains unsigned. The 6’2″ combo guard is extremely crafty with the ball. He understands angles and knows how to use his body and dribbles effectively to put the ball in the bucket. McIntyre’s season was highlighted with a 48 points explosion at the Real Run Classic against Santa Fe, after putting up a 32 pt clinic in a win over Mikey Williams’ Ysidro team. McIntyre also contributes in other ways by creating and looking for his teammates. Schools are missing out by not taking a chance in McIntyre.
Nick Bowden (6’0″ St. Bernards) An integral part of the St. Bernard’s program for his career, Bowden finished off senior night with a 50 point performance. With Nick, you get a sharpshooting combo guard who can splash it from anywhere past half court. He has a high IQ and makes the right reads. The Viking combo guard is a gym rat who is always striving to get better and a great locker room presence. Bowden averaged 18 and 5 during his senior campaign. Bowden was selected to All-CIF 2AA team and 1st Team All Dey Rey League.
Andrii Basovets (6’4″ Renaissance Academy) Combo guard from the Ukraine. Basovets is a good shooter who can also defend and has a high IQ. The Renaissance Academy team made a deep run in the playoffs and couldn’t have done it without the floor spacing of Basovets. Andrii came up big in the playoffs with a 6 three pointer game against Cathedral Catholic. Basovets has a 3.0 GPA and made 2nd team Harbor League.
Justin Williams (6’2″ Serra) The I CAN All Stars guard had a huge season at JSerra. The combo guard can do a bit of everything on the floor. With Ian Martinez as the primary scorer, Williams was a bit under the radar. He has a good offensive skill set displaying ball handling and dribble combos to get to the rack. He also can hit the 3 ball with range beyond the arc. Justin has good court vision, knows how to run half court sets, and also makes the right reads in transition. With 182 assists on the season, the J Serra guard had one of the highest assist totals in Southern California. Williams finished with 1st Team All Trinity League honors.
Matt Lee (6’1″ Village Christian) Not everyday do you see an Asian guard with Lee’s skill and demeanor. The Village Christian product had a big year in which he displayed the ability to score the ball. Lee isn’t afraid to take it in among the trees as he loves getting to the rim and using his body to finish through contact. Lee is a good shooter who can both catch and shoot and also create for himself off the dribble. Lee finished his career with over 1000 points and is currently receiving interest from D3 schools.
