Unfortunately, we only did five players for three teams, leaving plenty of guys who deserve the recognition out and even “snubbing” a few guys because of the limited space. Not to worry however, as we’ve come up with a list of honorable mentions (yes, we know there are some that got snubbed here too). Below, you’ll find five sophomore wings that were heavily considered for the All State team.
Jadon Wilson | 6’3” WF | Richmond Christian
Wilson was part of a young Richmond Christian team that was pretty successful on the year, earning a bid to the VISAA D3 state tournament. A big win that’s got a good skill set and the ability to make shots from all over the floor, he was productive as a scorer and on the glass and has a lot to work with moving forward. The sophomore averaged 18.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, earning First Team All VCC honors and Second Team All VISAA, the first player in school history to achieve the honor.
George Beal George Beal 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | Kings Fork
Beal was a part of a young Kings Fork group that won the Class 4 state championship and have a chance to be very special if they stay together. Beal’s upside is really the most intriguing thing about him as a prospect but the fact that he uses his length and athleticism to be as productive as he is, once his skill set comes around he’s going to be special. He showed improvement throughout the year, averaging 13 points and 9 rebounds per game for them.
Kendon Peebles | 6’4” WF | Hampton Christian
Peebles has to be in the talks for breakout player on the Peninsula after coming back from injury his first year and producing enough to be a unanimous First Team All Metro selection. The versatile and athletic wing is a guy with good size and bounce, he’s got a good skill set and a high motor and he brings it on both ends of the floor every day. He finished the season averaging 20.9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game.
Deshawn Goodwyn Deshawn Goodwyn 6'4" | SG George Wythe | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WG | George Wythe
Goodwyn has emerged for a young Wythe team as one of the top shooters in the state, and he isn’t shy as he’ll get them up regularly. The 6’3” wing is constantly moving without the basketball, he has deep range off of the catch and he’s very confident in his shooting ability as he’ll let it fly regularly and with consistency. He’s on pace to challenge the state record for most made three-pointers in a career if he continues this pace.
Jayson Easton Jayson Easton 6'4" | SG James River (Buchanan VA) | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WG | Alleghany
Easton doesn’t play in the biggest market but the sophomore had a breakout season for Alleghany and looks like he has a very bright future moving forward. A wing with good size and good athleticism, he’s a multilevel scorer that has the killer instinct and a good stroke from deep, he had multiple games of 30 and even a 40 point game this year, and should continue to put up big numbers in the Covington area. He was named First Team All District and First Team All Region after averaging close to 22 points per game.
