Unfortunately, we only did five players for three teams, leaving plenty of guys who deserve the recognition out and even “snubbing” a few guys because of the limited space. Not to worry however, as we’ve come up with a list of honorable mentions (yes, we know there are some that got snubbed here too). Below, you’ll find 10 senior wings that were heavily considered for the All State team.
Jahn Hines Jahn Hines 6'4" | SF Norview | 2020 State VA | 6’3” F | Norview
Hines was a monster all season for a Norview team that went on to be named state champions, and he did so much of the time while playing out of position. The Pilots were loaded with guards and wings and Hines was forced to play against the biggest player on the other team for much of the year, and he did so very well forcing mismatches and coming up with many very productive games. He was the glue for his team and did a little bit of everything to help them.
Aviwe Mahlong Aviwe Mahlong 6'2" | SF Eastern Mennonite | 2020 State VA | 6’3” WF | Eastern Mennonite
Mahlong has been one of the biggest reasons for EMHS turn around and success over the past few seasons since coming over from South Africa. The 6’3” wing is a very coachable and likable kid who will do whatever his team needs him to do whether it’s play in the post, make shots from deep, guard the best player on the other team and he rebounds well too. He’s heading to D2 Millersville next year.
Jared Cross Jared Cross 6'2" | SG St. Stephen's St. Agnes | 2020 State VA | 6’4” WF | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
The Army commit is what I would say a snub from our All-State team and it’s mostly because there were so many other talented kids on the team. However, his resume stacks up after winning a state championship as a junior and just narrowly missing it this year after they lost to PVI in the championship. The 6’4” Cross is a two way impact guy who’s great in their team defensive scheme, makes shots when open or contested and plays with a good motor as well.
Josh Campbell Josh Campbell 6'2" | SG Carmel School | 2020 State VA | 6’3” WG | Carmel School
Campbell had quite the career playing for his father at both Life Christian and Carmel School and helped put the new program on the map by taking them to the Final Four where they lost a heartbreaker to Eastern Mennonite. The 6’3” wing is a guy who plays with a nonstop motor and rebounds well for his size, he shoots it well from deep and stays in attack mode. He was named First Team All State in the VISAA D3 classification.
Marcus Banks Marcus Banks 6'2" | SG Bethel | 2020 State VA | 6’2” WG | Bethel
Banks’ playing career likely isn’t over as there are rumors swirling about him taking a post grad year, and that would bold well for him moving forward. The Bethel wing put up huge numbers this year scoring in double figures almost every game and lighting teams up from deep with his smooth shooting stroke. He’s a guy who is known as a shooter but is also underrated in his ability to score it off the bounce and he always stays in attack mode when he’s on the court.
Bradley Dean Bradley Dean 6'2" | SG Gate City | 2020 State VA | 6’2” WG | Gate City
Dean waited his turn behind Mac McClung (Georgetown) and Zac Ervin (Elon) for the past two years, and it paid off as he was probably the best player in the 276 this season. The smooth shooting guard is a lock for First Team All State in the VHSL Class 2, and he put up big numbers with his smooth stroke from deep and ability to rebound much more than his 6’2” frame would suggest. He’s being touted by a number of scholarship programs as well.
Jamal Barnes | 6’3” WG | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Sometimes the forgotten guy on a Saints’ team with three division one commits that are seniors, Barnes was big time in their run back to the state championship game, especially in the Final Four. A heady guard with a good understanding of spacing and the game, he constantly moves without the basketball and can get hot quickly from deep where he can fill it up in bunches. He’s also a steady defender and a good rebounder for his size as well.
Jordan Parham Jordan Parham 5'10" | CG Huguenot | 2020 State VA | 6’0” WG | Huguenot
An absolute steal for Lynchburg College of the ODAC, Parham is a guy who should be able to come in and make an immediate impact at the next level with his ability to score it from deep and be a reliable second ball handler as well. He’s got a smooth game that includes the ability to hit from way downtown both off the catch and off the bounce, he gets hot quickly and he always seems to bring it against the best of the best. He’s the main reason that Huguenot saw so much success over the past few seasons.
Mazae Blake | 6’2” WG | Hargrave
Blake was one of the more consistent players on a Hargrave varsity team that was one of the more talented teams I’ve seen them have over the past few years. A long and athletic guard who can score from all over the court, Blake is a versatile scorer who thrives in transition and put up big numbers throughout the year. He’s an available guy as well.
Jacob Dunniver Jacob Dunniver 6'3" | PF Stafford | 2021 VA | 6’6” WF | Stafford
Dunniver was quietly one of the best players in the Fredericksburg area and has a great offensive package that should translate well to the next level. At 6’6”, he’s a guy who can score it on the perimeter in a number of ways and can play on and off the basketball. He’s athletic with a great frame, he can fill it up in bunches and play multiple positions as well.
