Some camps create really good opportunities for players to advance to the next level, and some are clearly just a “money play.” It is important for players and parents to do their research and learn about these events prior to deciding to register. There is nothing more disappointing than when one of these events take advantage of people that are trying to present a student-athlete with the best opportunity to go to college. But lets not delve all the way into that since this was not the case with the UC Exposure Camp.
Coach Russell Vanlandingham (Coach V) is a 20+ year collegiate coach that has created a platform to assist players with going from “Interest to offers.” His UC Exposure Camp was a chance for players, especially seniors, to display their talents with several college coaches and recruitment personnel in attendance. The camp is based largely on highly intense competition challenges that test the players physical and mental toughness, which college coaches get to witness first hand. Moreover, this camp provides reports and evaluations of players, which are sent to other coaches from programs that are not able to attend. That is really what stands out about this event. This was not just a one day thing. Coach V and his staff continues to help the players that attend, even after the rims are raised and the gym lights are turned off.

Now that we have an overview of what this camp provides, lets look at some of the prospects that stood out.
PROSPECT STAND OUTS AT THE UC EXPOSURE CAMP
Davon Wright – 6’6 F/G | Cy Springs High School (2020)
Davon is a three level scorer that sees most of his time on the floor at the forward position but has the skill set of a guard. At this level, he is simply too big for opposing guards and to quick for opposing forwards. Also possesses solid basketball IQ and his length makes him an effective rebounder and shot block.
Evan Butts Evan Butts 6'1" | SG Cypress Fairbanks | 2020 State TX – 6’1 G | Cy Fair High School (2020)
Evan is a guard with an incredible work ethic. He can see some time at the point guard position, but the strongest aspect of his game is his shooting ability. He is efficient at making spot up threes, but also has the ability to score off the bounce from anywhere on the court.
RJ Crawford – 6’5 G | Langham Creek High School (2020)
The talk around RJ is that he is a big point guard. However, he is more effective at the shooting guard position. His shooting form is not traditional, but he makes threes at a high clip. He has great size, can defend the perimeter and although he is a bit quiet, leadership skills are definitely present.
DJ Stewart – 5’11 PG | Fort Bend Bush High School (2020)
One of my favorite players to watch play. DJ absolutely gives all that he has to the game. He is a true point guard that keeps everyone involved and who is an absolute pest on defense. Excels in turning defense into offense and is able to score when needed.
Ed Trahan Ed Trahan 6'4" | PF Cypress Creek | 2020 State TX – 6’5 F | Cy Creek
Ed is a strong forward who is able to move people off of their spots and create space in the paint. He has the ability to stretch out and make the three or take his defender off of the dribble. His footwork on the block is solid, he plays with a high motor and competes with the best of them.
Kellen Amos Kellen Amos 6'5" | SF St. John's Prepatory | 2020 State TX – 6’5 G | St John XXIII College Preparatory (2020)
What is most surprising about Kellen is probably his vision. There are times when he can see things that other people just do not see. Pair that with his ability to score from outside, Kellen is an intriguing prospect for any program. Has great size (and presumably still growing) and can play either guard position.
Khi Watkins – 6’1 G | College Park High School (2021)
Khi is a combo guard that will, more than likely, see the most minutes at the point guard position on the next level. He has a high motor, high IQ and is the type of leader that will not only motivate others, but also hold them accountable. Khi is one that I will keep a close eye on through this year. Love his potential.
*** OTHER NOTABLE PROSPECTS IN ATTENDANCE
AJ Ferguson – 6’4 G | Cy Park High School (2021) – Athletic wing that can shoot from deep
Alexis Jackson – 6’10 PF | Texas Prep Academy (2020) – Raw talent with tremendous size
Malik Nash – 6’0 PG | Cy Fair High School (2020) – Defensive minded with a knack for getting in the paint
Malik Sahaluddin – 6’1 PG | Texas Prep Academy | (2020) – Tough as nails, three level scoring PG
