Now, let’s take a look at some of the top performers across the state.
Josiah Ricketts Josiah Ricketts 6'1" | PG North Posey | 2020 State IN – 2020 – North Posey
Ricketts is one of the top scorers in the state this season, and he showed that on Tuesday night. He scored his 2,000th point last week, and he scored 37 en route to North Posey’s upset win over Evansville Mater Dei. Ricketts hit a game-high 6 three-point shots and 11 free throws down the stretch to help ice the game away. If Ricketts can continue to score like this, North Posey can continue their run in the tournament.
Charlie Yoder Charlie Yoder 6'4" | SF Westview | 2020 State #486 Nation IN – 2020 – Westview
Charlie Yoder Charlie Yoder 6'4" | SF Westview | 2020 State #486 Nation IN has been a star this season, and he had one of his best games of the season. Yoder racked up 35 points and 20 boards as well as 7 assists. Yoder is the best senior still available for this year, and he showed with this performance that he can take Westview far in this tournament.
Luke Brown Luke Brown 6'1" | PG Blackford | 2021 State IN – 2021 – Blackford
Luke Brown Luke Brown 6'1" | PG Blackford | 2021 State IN scored his 2,000th point in his junior season, and he showed why he is averaging over 30 points per game this season. He put up 34 in the win for Blackford over Madison-Grant. He also put up 34 on 1-8 shooting from behind the arc. If Brown can get his 3-point shot back, Blackford can win Sectional and make a run at Regional.
Gus Etchison Gus Etchison 6'0" | PG Hamilton Heights | 2021 State IN – 2021 – Hamilton Heights
Etchison scores at a terrific rate, and he continued this with another 30 point performance by scoring 33 in the win over New Castle on their home floor. If Etchison scores like this, Hamilton Heights could upset Delta in the championship game, but he was able to get them past their first big test last night.
Tyler Myers – 2023 – Evansville Day
Evansville Day scored a tightly-contested victory over Springs Valley in the opening round thanks to a dominating performance by Tyler Myers. Myers put up a game-high 29 points to lead the Eagles to a 61-56 victory. Evansville Day has the potential to win the Sectional if they can pull an upset win over the favorites, Northeast Dubois.
Cade Graham Cade Graham 6'1" | PG Evansville Memorial | 2020 State IN – 2020 – Evansville Memorial
Evansville Memorial was able to upset Boonville on Boonville’s home court thanks to a great offensive performance by Cade Graham Cade Graham 6'1" | PG Evansville Memorial | 2020 State IN . Graham was an outstanding 9-11 from the floor, including 3 of 3 behind the arc. He finished with 28 points and 7 boards in one of his best performances of the season.
Grant Niehaus – 2020 – Washington
Washington was a heavy favorite coming in, but Vincennes Lincoln was able to keep it close throughout. Washington was able to pull it out in overtime largely thanks to 26 points from their top scorer, Grant Niehaus.
Brady Bontrager – 2020 – Lakeland
Lakeland was a slight underdog coming into their game with Tippecanoe Valley, but they were able to control the entire game on their way to a 21 point victory. Brady Bontrager led the Lakers with a 24 point performance to help put Lakeland over the top.
Max Greenamoyer Max Greenamoyer 6'1" | SG University | 2020 State IN – 2020 – University
University dominated Scecina Memorial in their opening game thanks to Max Greenamoyer Max Greenamoyer 6'1" | SG University | 2020 State IN ’s 23 point performance. Greenamoyer was lights out from beyond the arc with 7 made triples in the ball game. If he can continue to shoot like that, University is going to be tough to beat down the stretch.
Preston Phillips Preston Phillips 6'7" | PG Jimtown | 2020 State IN – 2020 – Jimtown
Jimtown was able to hold off a furious run by John Glenn in overtime with two big buckets by Preston Phillips Preston Phillips 6'7" | PG Jimtown | 2020 State IN . Phillips hit a layup to put the Jimmies up 1 with about 10 seconds remaining. He then was able to get a steal and slam dunk at the buzzer to give Jimtown a 53-50 victory in overtime to move to the next round.
