The guys below just came off their first respective season many with a heavy presence on varsity teams. 2023s didn’t let their age or experience stop them from competing against 2022s and some 2021s. Here are 8 of the most productive freshman from GASO’s #TopsInTexas.
Levi Rutledge

An athletic wing with great size, Rutledge looks the part of a varsity player. Very solid frame for a combo guard. Plays a steady game when manning the point. Finishes well around the basket.
David Terrell
After finishing his freshman campaign, Terrell decided to sharpen his skills at GASO. He defended at a high level using his length to recover, contain in space, and block three guards on their way to the basket. He was a super competitor, going hard against top 2024s and tough 2023/2022 competition. That same athleticism from the defensive end leads to finishes around the rim. He also shows touch out to 3. Some of the passes Terrell threw in the open floor and pick and roll are the stuff of highlights. The 6-3 point guard may be poised for a major breakout next year as Mansfield Summit’s senior guard graduates.
Jaden Burnett
The Cedar Park freshman showed off promising shooting touch last Sunday. A pull up from the free-throw line and spot-up three were just the highlights of his performance.
Hayden Bauer
Being 6-4 with a high activity level helped Bauer produce. He was versatile on the defensive end guarding 1-4 thanks to his length. He picked up easy points by being in the right place and fighting for offensive boards.
Salim Roberts
A utility player with 6-3 size, Roberts made a difference with his high activity level. He cleaned up plays and competed. A raw prospect but flashes potential to be a versatile swingman.
Carmelo Adkins

The 2023 prospect finds a way to the basket through cutting. A great floater that’s able to connect at a high rate over bigs at the camp. Makes athletic finishes around the rim. Shows a quick release from three. Good size for a combo guard.
Jelani McDonald
In settings like these, there’s always one kid that produces without the ball and McDonald fits the bill. The long 6-1 guard just sit on the wing and let me the game come to him. He was scrappy on the boards and converted second-chance points, finishing one play with a tough up and over against a good defender.
Nyout Arop
The youngest Arop is a near spitting image of his brother in terms of physical traits. Checking in at just an inch shorter at 6-5, he’s still a bit passive on the court. Thanks to his physicals and similar comp in his brother once he gains the confidence and coordination, the sky’s the limit.
