Continue ReadingWith the season concluded, a number of seniors are starting to make their decisions on where they will be playing their college basketball. There are still a number of seniors who are quality prospects still looking for a spot at the next level. Here’s a quick look at some more top guard prospects who could be definite contributors in their first year at a variety of levels.
Justin Scoggin Justin Scoggin 6'3" | CG West Salem | 2020 State OR (2020 West Salem) – Combo guard that is an outstanding outside shooter but has improved his ability to score at all three levels. Solid ball-handler and passer that could transition to point guard at the college level. Missed part of the season due to a foot injury but returned for the last couple of games and is planning on playing AAU ball this off-season. Has garnered Division II interest and is looking at the possibility of prep school. Stats: 20.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.3 apg.
Jack Chlumak Jack Chlumak 6'3" | CG Lake Oswego | 2020 State OR (2020 Lake Oswego) – Versatile player that can defend point guards to post players at the high school level. Most effective around the basket offensively but has worked hard to improve his outside shot. Good ball-handler for his size and has played point guard on occasion. Tough competitor and high-academic performer who has garnered interest from Division III schools and received JC offers. Stats: 13.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.9 apg.
Kobe Withers Kobe Withers 6'0" | CG Sprague | 2020 State OR (2020 Sprague) – Scoring point guard who is at best getting to the basket or pulling up from mid-range. Continues to improve shooting with range and is currently more of a threat to score off the dribble than the catch-and-shoot. Tough defender who has quick hands and good anticipation skills. Plays bigger than his listed height. High-academic student who may be looking more at the JC route. Stats: 13.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 4.6 apg, 3.2 spg.
Andre Best Andre Best 5'11" | PG Oregon City | 2020 State OR (2020 Oregon City) – Hard-nosed point guard who initially started out as a defensive specialist but has improved his offensive ability. Has made great strides in his outside shot, changing it from a bit of a liabiilty to some more consistent. Makes smart decisions with his ball-handling and passing. Is considering going the JC route to start his career. Stats: 13.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.5 apg.
DeRay Seamster DeRay Seamster 6'1" | CG Central Catholic | 2020 State OR (2020 Central Catholic) – Athletic combo guard that had a breakout senior season after battling injuries earlier in his high school career. Finishes at the rim but can create off the dribble and knock down the catch-and-shoot jumper. Has good length and quickness to be a lockdown defender. Holds an offer from Chaminade. Stats: 13.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.0 apg, 2.4 spg.
Trey Galbraith Trey Galbraith 5'9" | PG South Salem | 2020 State OR (2020 South Salem) – Point guard with a smooth outside jumper and a nice feel for the game. May lack size but makes up for it with toughness and smarts. Crafty with the dribble and knows how to finish around the basket around bigger players. Has been getting JC interest but is hopeful for an opportunity at a four-year school. Stats: 12.7 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 5.6 apg.
Tai Warner Tai Warner 6'0" | CG Grant | 2020 State OR (2020 Grant) – Hard-nosed guard who came back from playing overseas to finish out his high school career. A natural scorer and shooter from long range, worked hard on making the transition to being more of a point guard. Solid body, finshes through contact in the paint. Tenacious on-the-ball defender and plays with a good motor. Will be playing AAU ball this spring/summer. Stats: 9.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.6 apg.
