It is important to remind the public of players who can do multiple things on the basketball court. Rebounding is a huge part of the game and these players can do it better than anyone else. Here are the top rebounders in the Class of 2021.
Rafael Castro Rafael Castro 6'9" | PF Dover | 2021 State #157 Nation NJ | Dover: Castro was the state’s leading rebounder this past season. He grabbed a total of 440 and averaged 16.3 per game. Castro had six 20 rebound games this season. He is a big bodied forward who seems to always be around the ball. Castro has great instincts and they are always on display.
Mulder Ethan | Veritas Christian: Not many players can collect 26 rebounds in a game. This is something that Ethan did twice this season. At 6’5, Ethan has great size and is usually the strongest player on the floor. He can score at will down low and is great on the boards on both ends.
Derrick Bueno Derrick Bueno 6'7" | PF Roselle Catholic | 2021 State NJ | Paramus Catholic: Bueno was one of the more dominant players this season because of his ability to score. Bueno was a big time scorer who could step out and shoot or get easy points from the free throw line. His ability to rebound speaks for itself. He is a 6’6 forward who put up eye-popping numbers on the glass.
Dominick Barlow Dominick Barlow 6'7" | SF Dumont | 2022 NLG | Dumont: Barlow notched double-doubles in all but four games this season. He was an elite scorer who had a 41-point and 38-point performance this season. His work on the glass comes from his size mixed with athleticism. Barlow is a player who can leap with anyone in the state and has great hands when he was the ball.
Kunga Tsering Kunga Tsering 6'6" | SF Woodstock Academy | 2022 State NLG | Hasbrouck Heights: There are few players who can rebound effectively, score at a high rate, and defend the basket on the other end. Tsering is that type of player. He averaged 12.1 rebounds per game and served as a rim protector on defense. He grabbed double-digit rebounds in all but four games this season.
Saleem Ibraheem | Wardlaw-Hartridge: This was a team with some young talent. Ibraheem was one of those players because of his rebounding prowess. He averaged over 12 boards per game and he did it from the guard position. It is extremely rare to see a guard who can rebound with the big men and Ibraheem is one of those guards.
