This weekend, the WIAA regionals tipped off March with plenty of quality basketball games. Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at some prospects that were able to lead their teams to victory with the season on the line.
Carter Gilmore Carter Gilmore 6'7" | SF Arrowhead | 2020 State #250 Nation WI — Arrowhead — SF
Gilmore, in my opinion, should win Mr. Basketball. The small forward has been incredible all season, leading Arrowhead to a 22-1 record. Gilmore buoyed the Warhawks once again on Saturday in a win over Menomonee Falls. He scored a school-record 49 points to help his squad survive the upset bid from MF.
Dalton Banks Dalton Banks 6'1" | PG Eau Clairie North | 2020 State #305 Nation WI — Eau Clarie North — PG
Gilmore may be the favorite to win Mr. Basketball, but Banks is not too far behind. The Eau Claire North point guard continues to stuff the stat sheet with big-time numbers. On Saturday, the point guard scored 30 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and had five assists for ECN in a 52-44 win over Hudson.
Max Klesmit Max Klesmit 6'2" | SG Neenah | 2020 State #407 Nation WI — Neenah — G
Thanks to Klesmit’s fantastic play, Neenah is clicking at the right time. Behind two great performances from the Wofford commit, the Rockets advanced to the sectional semi-finals. Klesmit poured in 32 points for Neenah in a regional final win over Marshfield.
Aidan Clarey Aidan Clarey 6'1" | CG Brookfield Academy | 2020 State WI — Brookfield Academy — G
Brookfield Academy is one of the more dangerous teams in the Divison Four bracket thanks to the scoring ability of Clarey. The Rockhurst commit is lethal as a three-level scorer. He dropped 34 points for BA in win over Heritage Christian on Friday night.
David Joplin David Joplin 6'8" | SF Brookfield | 2021 State #54 Nation WI — Brookfield Central — SF
I have come to expect nothing short of exceptional play from Joplin. And he didn’t disappoint me this weekend. After scoring just nine points against Green Bay Preble on Friday, Joplin put up 30 points on ten made field goals for BC in a win over a good Homestead squad.
Armani Jones Armani Jones 5'8" | PG Brown Deer | 2022 State WI — Brown Deer — PG
In the best game of the weekend, Jones came up clutch. With Dominican leading 102-100 in triple overtime, the point guard drew a foul on a three-point attempt. He then stepped to the free-throw line and tallied the three most important points of his career. Brown Deer would end up earning the 103-102 victory over one-seeded Dominican. Jones put up 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the win.
Brandin Podziemski Brandin Podziemski 6'6" | SG Saint John's Northwestern Academy | 2021 State #232 Nation WI — SJNMA — SG
I am positive that no player in the state of Wisconsin wants to guard Podziemski one-on-one. The SJNMA guard has developed into a prolific scorer. In two SJNMA wins, Podziemski dropped 62 points.
