Top-5’s in 2021: 3-Point Shooters
With the possibility of losing the entire AAU season this year, I will try and mention all 115 juniors ranked.
I like to take a look at my annual “Top-5’s”.
Every player has their 1 skill they usually excel at.
It’s just a fun way to take a look at players’ elite skills in different categories.
We start with the 19 3pt shooters.
Here are my Top-5:
1. Trenton McLaughlin Trenton McLaughlin 6'5" | SF Basha | 2021 State AZ (Basha)
-One of the top shooters off the catch. Became famous overnight with a 3pt game winner. But has a super quick release and squares up perfectly.
2. Jamel King Jamel King 6'7" | SF Bella Vista Prep | 2021 State AZ (Bella Vista Prep)
-Known as the 3 and D guy, King can really fill it up and plays above the rim on the break.
3. Joe Kelsey Joe Kelsey 5'10" | PG Desert Ridge | 2021 State AZ (Desert Ridge)
-Almost a specialist since he shoots more 3’s than FG’s but he also has a tighter handle and great feel for the game.
4. Kieran Carr Kieran Carr 6'4" | CG Phhoenix Prep Post Grad | 2022 State AZ (Arcadia)
-Growing quickly has a fast trigger and is consistent off the catch.
5. Colin Carey Colin Carey 6'6" | SF Sunrise Mountain | 2021 State AZ (Sunrise Mountain)
-The bigger wing can sling it off the dribble and off the catch with nice bounce!
The next-5
1. Jake TenBerge Jake TenBerge 6'6" | SG Phhoenix Prep | 2022 State AZ (Phhoenix Prep)
-A stronger skilled shooter. Has a consistent stroke and had a big season for the Fire.
2. Wyatt Bell Wyatt Bell 6'2" | CG Paradise Honors | 2021 State AZ (Paradise Honors)
-The Air Force commit can really shoot it off the catch. He gets clean looks and can also play on the ball.
3. Carson Biggs Carson Biggs 6'1" | SG Desert Mountain | 2021 State AZ (Desert Mountain)
-A quickly improving shooter is getting better. He can shoot it from mid to the 3pt line off the bounce but is best off the catch.
4. Miles Guliford Miles Guliford 6'1" | SG Liberty | 2021 State AZ (Liberty)
-The long lefty gets hot in a blink of an eye. He hit eight 3’s at the Tock Shootout in a game with a fast release.
5. Patrick Herrera (Skyline)
-Another fast trigger shooter has no conscience. He is very quick with the ball and has deep range.
Another-5
1. Quentin Cibulka Quentin Cibulka 5'11" | PG Brophy Prep | 2021 State AZ (Brophy Prep)
-A thinner guard with a clip. A fast release with range should be vital to a presumed great team next year.
2. Coleman Fields Coleman Fields 6'4" | SG Millennium | 2021 State AZ (Millennium)
-A catch shooter took a step back this year with two older senior transfers filling in. That being said, he’ll be back in the starting line up next year bombing away!
3. Yahir Garcia Yahir Garcia 6'4" | SG Southern AZ Volunteers | 2021 State AZ (Tucson)
-A long and lean shooter with deep range. He has some nice bounce and seems like he’s a stock riser for next year.
4. Samuel Yeager Samuel Yeager 6'3" | SG North Canyon | 2021 State AZ (Prescott)
-A lesser known shooter should be a star up in Prescott next year. He shoots it well off the catch with range.
5. Ruben Cazares Ruben Cazares 6'7" | PF Cholla | 2021 State AZ (Cholla)
-A long finesse forward likes to face-up to the 3pt line. He can work down low but prefers to sling it from the perimeter.
4-more:
1. Gunner Wooden Gunner Wooden 6'4" | SG Glenview College Prep | 2021 State AZ (Deer Valley)
-A long wing transferred in from Liberty. Once he sets his feet, he is money.
2. Michael Harris Michael Harris 6'3" | SG Westview | 2021 State AZ (Westview)
-Volume shooter but he can rattle off deep shot after shot with probably the highest arc in the entire state!
3. Matthew Holmes Matthew Holmes 6'0" | PG American Leadership Academy-Queen Creek | 2021 State AZ (ALA-QC)
-A skilled guard who is best off the catch from the 3pt line. With many seniors graduating, he should breakout next year.
4. Steinar Christianson Steinar Christianson 6'5" | PF Ironwood | 2021 State AZ (Ironwood)
-A strong face-up forward can shoot it off the catch. He moves smartly off the ball and can rebound. Will be asked to step it up next year for the state champs.
