From some of the state’s top ranked players to a few under-the-radar prospects, Prep Hoops Wisconsin runs through some of the best sophomore prospects in Racine County.
Amari Jedkins Amari Jedkins 6'7" | PF Racine Case | 2022 State WI (6’8 2022 F, Racine Case)- One of the most promising big men in the 2022 class, Amari Jedkins Amari Jedkins 6'7" | PF Racine Case | 2022 State WI is an ultra athletic forward who showed some promising developments in his game as a sophomore. An explosive finisher who finishes above the rim with ease, Amari scored 8.5 a game while being Case’s leading rebounder at 7.2 per game. At this stage of his development he is best on the defensive end, using great timing to send back attempts around the rim, while also having the mobility to step out and guard on the perimeter. Offensively he’s at his best scoring off of dump off passes and second chance looks inside.
Darrien Long Darrien Long 6'5" | PF Racine Horlick | 2022 State WI (6’4 2022 W/F, Racine Horlick)- Though just a sophomore, Darrien is already one of the most explosive finishers in the state. Long is built like a senior, possessing a physical frame that allows him to play on the wing or the block at the high school level, and he elevates with ease to throw down powerful dunks in transition or in half-court sets. Defensively he is a shot blocking presence inside, but has the agility to guard perimeter players as well. Although he has a slow release on his shot, he’s a solid three point shooter who can also create looks from mid-range off the dribble. A high ceiling player who will be interesting to watch develop over the upcoming years.
Asanjai Hunter (5’11 2022 PG, Prairie)- One of the top performers for Prairie this past season was their young point guard Asanjai Hunter. Asanjai put up 10.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per contest for a young Prairie squad, and was a consistent contributor game in and game out. The sophomore is a quick guard who darts up the floor off of turnovers where he is then able to finish at the rim with either hand.
Terryon Brumby Terryon Brumby 6'0" | PG Racine Case | 2022 State WI (6’ 2022 G, Racine Case)- One half of one of the top 2022 duos in Wisconsin, Terryon is a lightning fast guard who can fly up the floor in transition, beating defenders to the basket to finish. His tight handle allows him to pick his spot to pull-up, where he has a reliable jumper from mid-range or beyond the arc. Terryon averaged 14 ppg as a sophomore, acting as a secondary scoring option behind JaKobe Thompson, but proved he can take games over with highs of 35 and 32.
Dontrell Bush Dontrell Bush 6'1" | SG Racine Horlick | 2022 WI (6’1 2022 G, Racine Horlick)- Dontrell Bush Dontrell Bush 6'1" | SG Racine Horlick | 2022 WI made good use of his first varsity season for Horlick, averaging 8.1 ppg as a starting guard in an inexperienced lineup. Coming in at 61st in our 2022 rankings updates, Dontrell has a crafty game getting to the bucket to finish. He makes good use of a Euro-step both in transition and half-court, using a long stride to slide past his defender. The lefty guard has a solid jumper from beyond the arc when given too much space, but is at his best attacking the basket where he is a capable finisher with either hand. As he continues to work on his consistency and further develop his explosiveness, Dontrell is a prospect to watch moving forward.
Tyson Skalecki (6’4 2022 W, Union Grove)- A deep sleeper prospect who started to work his way into Union Grove’s varsity rotation towards the end of the year, Tyson Skalecki possesses two key attributes that college coaches like; length and shooting range. A 6’4 wing with the potential to add another inch or two to his frame, Tyson has solid length to contribute at the next level. Though he only attempted 40 threes due to limited minutes, Skalecki knocked them down at a 47.5% rate, including going 7-9 for 21 points against a really tough Elkhorn team.
Jorryn Franklin (5’9 2022 G, Racine Park)- An undersized but quick guard, Jorryn Franklin was one of the bright spots for Racine Park in a year that saw their record take a huge dip. After graduating a loaded 2019 class, a lot of young players were forced to step up, with Jorryn being one of them. He averaged 7 ppg as a consistent contributor on the offensive end, using his quickness to get to the rim to finish. Jorryn is at his best playing in fast paced games, and he finished in double figures five times during his sophomore season.
