Continue ReadingRacine has been a hotspot for high school hoops talent, and the class of 2021 is one of the most loaded groups the city has seen in recent years. That talent extends outside the city too, as Racine County as a whole boasts a number of talented college prospects at all levels. Prep Hoops Wisconsin details some of the top junior talents throughout Racine County.
Tyrese Hunter Tyrese Hunter 5'11" | PG Racine St. Catherine's | 2021 State #63 Nation WI (6’1 2021 PG, Racine St. Catherine’s)- The headliner of this talented group, Tyrese was the Metro Classic Conference MVP and a Division 3 All-State performer. Tyrese is as exciting an athlete as you’ll find in the state, combining explosive finishes, shifty handles, and a vastly improved jumper to dominate throughout his junior season. He added multiple high major offers after averaging 21.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3 steals per game all while shooting 41% from beyond the arc. In transition Tyrese is able to fly up the court and then at the last second slow down and watch defenders fly by, or go up and finish above the rim going full speed. The walking highlight reel will likely see more high majors hop into his recruitment in the near future.
JaKobe Thompson (6’1 2021 G, Racine Case)- Another conference player of the year, JaKobe Thompson is a natural at putting the ball in the basket. Already with 1,354 career points after averaging 19 ppg for the third straight season, JaKobe increased his efficiency, boosting his shooting numbers to 50% from the field, 77% from the line, and 33% from three, all career bests. JaKobe doesn’t stand out with athleticism or flashy play, but has such a great feel for gliding through defenders to get to the rim, where he has an uncanny ability to extend and finish past length. If he gets a defender on an island from the perimeter, he’s one of the top isolation scorers in the state with his ability to create an open jumper off the dribble.
Kamari Mcgee Kamari Mcgee 6'0" | PG Racine St. Catherine's | 2021 State WI (6’ 2021 PG, Racine St. Catherine’s)- It’s hard to find another point guard in the 2021 class who plays with as much efficiency as Kamari Mcgee Kamari Mcgee 6'0" | PG Racine St. Catherine's | 2021 State WI . As a junior he totaled 96 assists while turning the ball over just 17 times, and averaged 11.2 ppg shooting 50% from the field and 40% from deep. A great ball handler who can change direction in the blink of an eye to get to the basket, Kamari is an unselfish point guard who can also get buckets of his own attacking the rim or pulling up from mid-range. Though not the tallest prospect, Kamari gets great elevation on his jumper and has a strong build that he combines with his quickness to be a lock-down defender.
Antuan Nesbitt Antuan Nesbitt 6'4" | SF Racine | 2021 State WI (6’4 2021 G, Prairie)- Antuan is a positionless prospect who can play the 1-3 spots due to his length, athleticism, and versatile skillset. He handles the ball and was the Metro Classic Conference leader in assists at 6.1 per game. He also scored 19 points per game while snagging 7.8 boards a game. Nesbitt is an explosive leaper off of two feet who can finish with authority off back door cuts to the hoop. Off the dribble he’s capable of creating his own shot and knocking down mid-range jumpers with his elevation and high release point. And although he only shot 46 threes this past season, he knocked them down at a 46% rate.
Isaiah Hoyt Isaiah Hoyt 6'1" | CG Wilmot | 2021 State WI (6’ 2021 PG, Union Grove)- Moving into the western part of Racine County is one of the state’s top 2021 point guard prospects. Hoyt didn’t get to play his junior season due to transferring to Union Grove from Prairie, but regardless is a top-30 level prospect in the 2021 class. Isaiah Hoyt Isaiah Hoyt 6'1" | CG Wilmot | 2021 State WI is a composed guard with surprising bounce who does a bit of everything for his team. He makes smart passes, has range well beyond the arc (shot 40% from three as a sophomore), and has the vision to find an open teammate after penetrating the lane. He’ll be exciting to watch as a senior.
Brady Wilks (5’9 2021 PG, Racine Lutheran)- It’s hard to find a player who competes harder on the defensive end than Brady Wilks. A tough nosed defender who moves his feet and gets up under his man, Wilks is a fiery competitor who came up with 3 steals a game as a junior. Offensively he is a high volume shooter who can catch fire from beyond the arc, and has the quickness to penetrate the lane. Despite is small stature, he is able to score in the paint with a soft floater that he gets good arc on to avoid lengthy defenders.
Jameer Barker (6’2 2021 W, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Jameer had been known as one of the better 2021 players in Racine, but really made a name for himself during his junior season as the second leading scorer for a 25-0 St. Cat’s team averaging 14.3 ppg. Jameer is such a tough finisher around the rim, making and-one plays look routine. He compliments that finishing ability with a 40.8% shooting touch from beyond the arc. I really like his ability to attack into a post-up, where he is often too strong and physical for other guards to handle on the block. A big time scorer whose stock could rise this summer into his senior year.
Joey Berezowitz (5’8 2021 G, Burlington)- The undersized sharpshooter from Burlington had a big time junior season shooting 43% from deep on his way to 15.6 ppg and 2.7 apg. Despite his small stature, Joey is a tough competitor and fights for every loose ball and rebound. His release on his shot is lightning quick, and he does a good job of using his body to shield off defenders when he goes up to finish in transition. If you leave him even an inch of space to get off his shot, he can make you pay.
Jackson Woodward (5’11 2021 G, Racine Lutheran)- Capable of playing either guard spot, Woodward combines with Brady Wilks to form a formidable backcourt duo. Woodward is a tough competitor with a solid handle who can thread the needle with his passing. Offensively he is best off one dribble pull-ups from mid-range, where he doesn’t need much space to get his shot off. Averaged a well rounded 15.9 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.9 steals per game as a junior.
Kody Krekling Kody Krekling 6'3" | SG The Prairie School | 2021 State WI (6’3 2021 G/F, Prairie)- Kody Krekling Kody Krekling 6'3" | SG The Prairie School | 2021 State WI saw his stock rise tremendously this year, and he’s a player who D3 coaches will want to keep a close eye on over the next year. His numbers jumped up to 9.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. A solid outside shooter, Kody doesn’t take a force bad shots, and has takeover capabilities when the jumper is falling. In transition he has some explosive leaping ability that allows him to power up and finish over defenders. Kody moves well off the ball, getting a lot of looks around the basket off backdoor cuts, using his strength to finish in the paint.
Calvin Hunter (5’9 2021 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Coming off the bench this season for St. Cat’s, Calvin Hunter helped stretch the floor for the Angels’ athletes with his deep shooting range. Opposing teams new he was the shooter, yet they still couldn’t contain his quick scoring outbursts off the bench. Calvin averaged 5.8 ppg as a 38% shooter from deep, using his quickness to come off screens and getting into open spots to catch-and-shoot. One of the top deep shooting threats in Racine.
KJ Williams (5’8 2021 PG, Prairie)- Likely the biggest sleeper on this list, KJ’s stats aren’t eye catching, but he is a lightning quick athlete who handles the ball at a very high level. Capable of creating his own shot off the dribble, he gets great elevation on his mid-range pull-up to help get his shot up over taller defenders. Defensively he is able to make opposing ball handlers uncomfortable with his quickness and ability to get up under his man. KJ is also capable of knocking down threes off the catch, and finished his junior year averaging 4.4 points and 2.3 assists as a 39% shooter from three.
