As I’m watching endless amounts of film, texting coaches, and going through my notes, I looked at some of the junior class and was struck. They are going to be SENIORS next year! It seems like these guys just showed up as wide eyed freshman that were looking to make an impact. Now…..they’re veterans and leaders.
Kobe Bufkin Kobe Bufkin 6'4" | SG Grand Rapids Christian | 2021 State #71 Nation MI (CG, Grand Rapids Christian)
It seems like just yesterday that Coach Marcus Lancaster was telling me about this smooth lefty guard. Coach Lancaster was right, as Bufkin has turned himself into a consensus top 80 recruit nationally. He’s certainly made the most of the last 3 years.
Legend Geeter Legend Geeter 6'7" | PF River Rouge | 2021 State MI (F, River Rouge)
I wrote an article that included Geeter as a freshman to watch just before that season began. I knew he’d be special, but he’s gone above and beyond. Geeter has become a testament as to where a team first attitude and a diverse game can lead you to.
Kingsley Perkins Kingsley Perkins 6'7" | PF Ann Arbor Huron | 2021 State MI (PF, Ann Arbor Huron)
Perkins attended a camp I ran in Ann Arbor before his freshman season. He came in as a super athletic 6’4″ athlete with a raw game. Not anymore. Now he’s a disciplined defensive game changer and a 6’7″ next level power forward.
Trip Riemersma Trip Riemersma 6'4" | SG Zeeland East | 2021 State MI (SG, Zeeland East)
I remember hearing some chatter about this shooter on the west side of the state. I made some calls, watched some film, and snuck in some gyms. I really liked Riemersma’s game from the first video. We all knew he could shoot from deep, but now he can create his own looks off the dribble and be a playmaker.
Omar Ziegler Omar Ziegler 6'5" | CG Detroit King | 2021 State MI (CG, Detroit King)
I’ll never forget the texts and phone calls with Michigan Playmakers Coach Wendell Green Sr., with both of us raving about Ziegler. Since his freshman year, I’ve seen him play at a high level from Dallas to Detroit. It’s been nice to see him start to get the recognition he deserves over the last year.
