These are the players who stepped onto campus this year and made an overall impact on their teams from the guard position. From early leadership, nagging defensive presence to being the main scorer on teams these are the players you will be seeing dominating backcourts for the next 3 years.
Jayden Teat – Combo Guard – Jesuit ( Carmichael, CA )
Being in a backcourt with Top 100 2021 guard Isa Silva, Teat has paved a way in the Mauraders offense and rotation. Having Ray Allen like 3 point range and crafty handles to escape double team Teat makes teams play the full 94 feet of the court. Very aggressive on defense poking for steals while being conservative for fouls. While being young Teat holds court IQ of upperclassmen in tough situations late in the game. Multiple 3PT FG games this season playing a tough preseason schedule and battling in the tough CIF-SJS Delta League featuring Sheldon High School (Sacramento, CA) frequently in and out of the national rankings Teat will be known as one of the best shooters in the 2023 class.
Jehahn Williams – PG – Edison ( Stockton, CA )
Backup Point Guard for the Edison High School Vikings out of Stockton, CA Williams is making a name for himself in the San Joaquin Valley on an up and coming team this year. The Vikings ended the season at (20-9)(10-0) with an SJAA league championship and 1st round loss in the CIF SJS Div. 1 playoffs. Coming off the bench getting ample minutes from 1st year Head Coach Diondre Hawthorne, Williams showed promise his year as the backup point guard facilitating the floor and scoring when needed. Ballhandling up to par being able to navigate and be vocal in learning to lead the team. Look for Williams to make a splash this summer on the AAU circuit en route to his sophomore year.
Jordan Aquino – Combo Guard – Abraham Lincoln ( San Francisco, CA )
Starting as an off the ball guard, Jordan is the spark plug of the offense for the Mustangs. Loves to take his defenders to the wing and drive for the score in the half-court setting. Plays the defensive end recklessly looking for steals and offensive players who underestimate the athletic ability compared to the 5’5 frame of Aquino trying to throw a cross-court passes. Very vocal on both ends of the court which brings the hype and chemistry out of his teammates. The all-around player who loves to showcase every aspect of his game from the ballhandling to the IQ of knowing he has the green light to go into that mode or obey the offensive philosophy of Coach Jacobs. Aquino will be on many Division 1 radars as the Lincoln Mustangs will be the favorites for the net 3 years in the AAA League of the San Francisco Section who holds automatic bids into CIF Nor-Cal brackets.
King Jhassani Wilhite -Guard – St. Ignatius ( San Francisco, CA )
Stepping into a big role as a freshman King Jhassani has shown and proved that he deserves to be a starting Point Guard in the tough WCAL league. With St.Ignatius holding a record (11-16)(3-11) you might look on paper as there isn’t enough depth or a load of upperclassmen left last year. No, he is the real deal leading the Wildcats to the CIF CCS Div 3 championship. Wilhite has been making a name on the AAU circuit since middle school playing for the Nationally renowned Oakland Soldiers AAU team he has been putting in the work since middle school. Already sustaining 3 point range from anywhere on the floor, Wilhite is the triple threat being able to dribble-drive past defenders with cat-like speed and crossovers that will leave you behind and the crisp passes barely making it past defenders to make sweet dimes for the thrill of the crowd. Defensively, Wilhite is what you want in a point guard very patient with stealing the ball would rather let the defense make a mistake behind his great on-ball defense.
